For the fourth straight week, the model has seen either a profit or loss of less than one unit (three winning weeks, one losing week).<\/p>\n<p>Last week was a bit unfortunate. <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"157\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/south-florida-bulls-college-football\/\">South Florida<\/a> had to move their game to Orlando (I thought they were going to play Sunday), and <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"155\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/ucf-knights-college-football\/\">UCF<\/a> made a quarterback change that seemed to come out of nowhere. Win some, lose some. It is what it is.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/5826073\/2024\/10\/07\/college-football-best-bets-week-7-oregon-ohio-state\/\"><strong>Last week\u2019s record:<\/strong><\/a> 4-4, -0.35 units<br \/><strong>Season record:<\/strong> 26-29-2, -3.99 units, -6.4% ROI<\/p>\n<p>Five bets to kick off the card this week, including one in the game of the week for the second straight week. Let\u2019s hope the underdog can come out as a winner for us one more time. Georgia might have some issues on offense but the defense is still elite. And while Texas has put up great defensive numbers this season, they haven\u2019t really played the best competition so far. I think Georgia is by far the best offense they\u2019ve faced this season and I think that shows up on Saturday.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Worst price to bet: Georgia +3 (-110)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"249\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/arizona-state-sun-devils-college-football\/\">Arizona State<\/a> +3 (-105) at <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"154\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/cincinnati-bearcats-college-football\/\">Cincinnati<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Arizona State should have a matchup advantage on the ground in this one. The Sun Devils are 14th in rushing success rate on offense, according to gameonpaper.com. The Cincinnati defense ranks 103rd in the same metric. If Cincinnati is going to leak yards on the ground all night, they\u2019ll be hard-pressed to win the game, let alone cover this number. My projections have this game closer to a pick \u2019em.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Worst price to bet: Arizona State +3 (-110)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"194\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/rutgers-scarlet-knights-college-football\/\">Rutgers<\/a> -6.5 (-110) vs. <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"250\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/ucla-bruins-college-football\/\">UCLA<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>UCLA has had a brutal schedule from a travel perspective. They started off the year at Hawai\u2019i, had a bye before playing at home, then traveled to <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"267\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/lsu-tigers-college-football\/\">LSU<\/a>, then back home, then to <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"193\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/penn-state-nittany-lions-college-football\/\">Penn State<\/a>, then back home, before now traveling to Rutgers. That\u2019s a lot of travel for a team that\u2019s not very good. Factor in a noon ET start and a lot of things are going against the Bruins from a situational standpoint. And that\u2019s before I get to my number, which is almost double digits. Anything at a touchdown or less is worth a shot on Rutgers here.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Worst price to bet: Rutgers -7 (-110)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Michigan -1.5 (-105) at Illinois<\/h3>\n<p>This is a buy-low spot on Michigan. The defending national champions seemed to expect now-starting quarterback <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"4FA2mrJGeaxEB5FF\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/player\/jack-tuttle-4FA2mrJGeaxEB5FF\/\">Jack Tuttle<\/a> to be their starter all season, but recovery from an injury last season took longer than expected. That\u2019s caused the offense to be absolutely anemic against anyone with a pulse this year. Tuttle should give them a bit of a downfield passing game while also being able to take care of the football. Does he make them good? Absolutely not. But he\u2019s certainly an upgrade.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Worst price to bet: <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"192\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/michigan-wolverines-college-football\/\">Michigan<\/a> -2.5 (-110)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"180\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/west-virginia-mountaineers-college-football\/\">West Virginia<\/a> +3 (-110) vs. <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"185\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/kansas-state-wildcats-college-football\/\">Kansas State<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Headed back to the well here with West Virginia after losing on them last week. Their game against <a class=\"ath_autolink\" data-id=\"183\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/college-football\/team\/iowa-state-cyclones-college-football\/\">Iowa State<\/a> didn\u2019t scream double-digit loss and actually looked like a pretty even game. Kansas State is on back-to-back road games, so a little bit of a tough spot here as well. West Virginia can\u2019t really defend the pass, but Kansas State isn\u2019t all that great at throwing it.
