after Dutch semiconductor equipment maker ASML posted disappointing sales forecasts, driving down global stocks in the sector.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Japanese semiconductor manufacturing firm <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/8035.T-JP\/\">Tokyo Electron<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span 3.3% and 1.6, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>South Korean chipmaking heavyweight SK Hynix, which manufactures high bandwidth memory chips for AI applications for Nvidia, traded 1.6% lower. While Samsung Electronics,\u00a0the world&#8217;s largest maker for dynamic random-access memory chips, saw its shares drop 1.9%.<\/p>\n<p>Losses in the region&#8217;s semiconductor sector also dragged down major indexes. Japan&#8217;s <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-6\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\">Nikkei 225<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> lost more than 2%, <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-7\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\">South Korea&#8217;s Kospi<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> dipped 0.6% and the <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"RegularArticle-QuoteInBody-8\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.TWII\/\">Taiwan Weighted Index<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> slid 0.7%.<\/p>\n<p>In a report on Tuesday, ASML, which is based in Veldhoven, Netherlands, said it expects net sales for 2025 to come in between 30 billion euros and 35 billion euros ($32.7 billion and $38.1 billion), at the lower half of the range it had previously provided.<\/p>\n<p>Net bookings for the September quarter were 2.6 billion euros ($2.83 billion), the company said \u2014 well below the 5.6 billion euro LSEG consensus estimate. Net sales, however, beat expectations coming in at 7.5 billion euros.<\/p>\n<p>The company&#8217;s CEO\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/15\/chip-firm-asml-shares-fall-12percent-after-earnings-released-earlier-than-expected.html\">warned<\/a>\u00a0of cautiousness among customers and said a &#8220;recovery is more gradual than previously expected.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After ASML tanked 16%, other global chipmakers plunged. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\/\">Nvidia<\/a> fell 4.7% and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AMD\/\">AMD<\/a> lost 5.2%.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-10-15\/us-weighs-capping-exports-of-ai-chips-from-nvidia-and-amd-to-some-countries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Also on Tuesday, Bloomberg<\/a> reported that that Biden administration officials had discussed limiting sales of advanced AI clips from Nvidia to certain countries in the interest of national security, further dampening investor sentiment around the semiconductor sector.<\/p>\n<p>ASML has faced a tougher business outlook in China due to U.S. and Dutch export restrictions on its shipments.<\/p>\n<p>CFO Roger Dassen said Tuesday that he expects the company&#8217;s China business to show a &#8220;more normalized percentage in our order book and also in our business.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So we expect China to come in at around 20% of our total revenue for next year,&#8221; he said.
