(Photo by ISAAC LAWRENCE \/ AFP) (Photo by ISAAC LAWRENCE\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Isaac Lawrence | Afp | Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets traded lower Wednesday, with Japan&#8217;s Nikkei leading losses, following declines on Wall Street.<\/p>\n<p>Investors will be watching for more stimulus measures to prop up the real estate sector in China with the country&#8217;s housing minister set to hold a press briefing on Thursday 10 a.m. local time, according to a statement from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scio.gov.cn\/xwfb\/fbhyg_13737\/zxyg\/202410\/t20241015_869516.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the State Council Information Office on Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ni Hong, minister of housing and urban-rural development, is expected to address the press conference along with officials from the central bank, the finance ministry and the National Financial Regulatory Administration.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the briefing, China&#8217;s CSI 300 Real Estate Index jumped 4.45%, while the broader benchmark CSI 300 slipped 0.3%. Hang Seng Mainland Properties Index rose over 5%, much more than the 0.9% rise in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\">Hang Seng index<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong&#8217;s chief executive John Lee pledged to bolster the government&#8217;s focus on people&#8217;s livelihoods in his annual policy address, including steps to reduce wait times for public housing.<\/p>\n<p>The city&#8217;s leader also vowed to streamline procedures for companies seeking to list in Hong Kong and to attract more international company listings on the city&#8217;s stock exchange.<\/p>\n<p>Traders in Asia, meanwhile, assessed economic data from the region. New Zealand reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stats.govt.nz\/information-releases\/consumers-price-index-september-2024-quarter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its consumer prices index<\/a> for the third quarter rose 2.2% year on year, in line with economists&#8217; expectations in a Reuters poll. It climbed 0.6% on quarter, slightly lower than the anticipated 0.7%.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/kostat.go.kr\/board.es?mid=a20105020000&amp;bid=11732&amp;list_no=433252&amp;act=view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate<\/a> came in at 2.5% in September, compared to 2.4% in August.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\">Nikkei 225<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> fell 1.83% to close at 39,180.3, while the broad-based Topix dropped 1.2% to finish at 2,690.66.<\/p>\n<p>The Taiwan Weighted index lost 1.21% to finish at 23,010.98, dragged down by technology sector.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-6\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> dropped 0.3%.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s Kospi fell 0.6% and the small-cap Kosdaq dropped 0.96%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Overnight in the U.S., stocks tumbled amid corporate earnings season.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0lost 324.80 points, or 0.75%, closing at 42,740.42. The 30-stock average touched a fresh intraday record before sliding.
