The 41-year-old\u2019s announcement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/2024\/10\/15\/24270989\/does-a-bunch-of-steroids-and-comes-back-pros-react-to-donald-cerrone-teasing-ufc-return\">was mostly met with enthusiasm<\/a> from fans and fellow fighters, but the UFC CEO was not among them. In fact, White was unequivocal in his dislike for Cerrone coming back to MMA.<\/p>\n<p id=\"JQYFnn\">\u201cI hate it. I hate it,\u201d White said at his post-<em>Contender Series<\/em> media scrum on Tuesday. \u201cLove him, hate that.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ZIeUqy\">\u201cHe retired. For what? What\u2019s left to prove? If you want to make money, let\u2019s figure something else out. I hate it. When guys retire, they retire for a reason. They don\u2019t just retire because \u2014 they retire because they know it\u2019s over. They know it is. <\/p>\n<p id=\"e2uCrF\">\u201cNot just this sport but any professional sport, is hard to walk away from. Not just the money \u2014 that\u2019s obviously a very hard part of it \u2014 but the feeling of walking out of that tunnel, the feeling of getting in the cage and the place is packed. Look at every time we\u2019re at a show and we show Cowboy Cerrone on the screen, the place goes nuts. He\u2019s beloved. He\u2019s beloved because the guy goes to war, and he\u2019s been in wars for years, and it\u2019s time to not go to war anymore. There\u2019s nothing left to prove for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"X5j8DC\">Cerrone is one of the most decorated fighters in UFC history, with a number of promotional records to his name. After retiring from the sport in 2022, he was inducted in the UFC Hall of Fame in 2023 in the Modern wing. However, the end of Cerrone\u2019s career left much to be desired as he lost six of his final seven fights, with only a No-Contest in between the losses.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yaHilv\">White isn\u2019t sure exactly why Cerrone wants to return but if it\u2019s a matter of money, White says they can always figure something else out.<\/p>\n<p id=\"uarXeb\">\u201cI\u2019d rather work something else out with him, figure out another way,\u201d White said. \u201cIf it\u2019s about money, then he can do something else. Because he ain\u2019t going to fight for the rest of his life and he\u2019s always going to need to make money. So let\u2019s figure that out now instead of three years from now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"pNVUAT\">Based on Cerrone\u2019s statements though, it doesn\u2019t seem like money is the primary motivator. \u201cCowboy\u201d currently has 48 fights in his career in either the UFC or WEC, and explicitly noted he\u2019d like to make it to 50. <\/p>\n<p id=\"WmUyXo\">But White appears to be more concerned with Cerrone\u2019s longterm health than anything else, and it doesn\u2019t seem like \u201cCowboy\u201d will get his wish unless he can change White\u2019s mind.<\/p>\n<p id=\"j9uDWF\">\u201cCerrone shouldn\u2019t think about fighting again,\u201d White said. \u201cCerrone needs to think about what\u2019s next. He should have been thinking about it two years ago but apparently he didn\u2019t, and he needs to. But we\u2019re here for him. We love Cerrone. We\u2019ll help in any way we can.
