{"id":114887,"date":"2024-10-16T18:41:02","date_gmt":"2024-10-16T11:41:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=114887"},"modified":"2024-10-16T18:41:02","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T11:41:02","slug":"menendez-brothers-family-to-push-for-their-release-as-prosecutors-review-1989-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=114887","title":{"rendered":"Menendez brothers&#8217; family to push for their release as prosecutors review 1989 case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>LOS ANGELES (AP) \u2014 The extended family of <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/menendez-brothers-california-killings-new-evidence-488b0f0faf3ad86264e0d80036a6d37c\">Erik and Lyle Menendez<\/a><\/span> will advocate for the brothers\u2019 release from prison during a news conference set for Wednesday in downtown Los Angeles as prosecutors review new evidence to determine whether they should be serving life sentences for killing their parents.<\/p>\n<p>Billed as \u201ca powerful show of unity\u201d by more than a dozen family members \u2014 including the brothers\u2019 aunt \u2014 who are traveling across the country to Los Angeles, the news conference will take place less than two weeks after LA County District Attorney George Gasc\u00f3n announced his office was looking at the brothers\u2019 case again. <\/p>\n<p>Erik Menendez, now 53, and his 56-year-old brother, <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/national-celebrity-general-news-dbe3118a457f4abcba69f1e52e34d59e\">Lyle Menendez<\/a><\/span>, are currently incarcerated in state prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of killing their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion more than 35 years ago. <\/p>\n<p>Lyle Menendez, who was then 21, and Erik Menendez, then 18, admitted they fatally shot-gunned their entertainment executive father, Jose Menendez, and their mother, Kitty Menendez, in 1989 but said they feared their parents were about to kill them to prevent the disclosure of the father\u2019s long-term sexual molestation of Erik.<\/p>\n<p>The extended family\u2019s attorney Bryan Freedman previously said they strongly support the brothers\u2019 release. <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/rosie-odonnell\">Comedian Rosie O\u2019Donnell<\/a><\/span> also plans to join the family on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe wishes nothing more than for them to be released,\u201d Freedman said earlier this month of Joan VanderMolen, Kitty Menendez\u2019s sister and the brothers\u2019 aunt.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Gasc\u00f3n said there is no question the brothers committed the 1989 murders, but his office will be reviewing new evidence and will make a decision on whether a resentencing is warranted in the notorious case that captured national attention.<\/p>\n<p>The brothers\u2019 attorneys said the family believed from the beginning they should have been charged with manslaughter rather than murder. Manslaughter was not an option for the jury during the second trial that ultimately led to the brothers\u2019 murder conviction, attorney Mark Geragos previously said.<\/p>\n<p>The case has gained new traction in recent weeks after Netflix began streaming the true-crime drama \u201c <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/video\/national-7c12b6b51da7494f875a7bf7d7630432\">Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.<\/a><\/span> \u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new evidence includes a letter written by Erik Menendez that his attorneys say corroborates the allegations that he was sexually abused by his father. A hearing was scheduled for Nov. 29.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors at the time contended there was no evidence of any molestation. They said the sons were after their parents\u2019 multimillion-dollar estate.<\/p>\n<p>But <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/celebrity-general-news-0e433ec3d92c4e1fa3e2a538f0476c44\">the brothers<\/a><\/span> have said they killed their parents out of self-defense after enduring a lifetime of physical, emotional and sexual abuse from them.
