Residents are being impaced by flooded rivers that are slow to go down after Hurricane Milton.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><strong>LAND O&#8217; LAKES, Fla.\u2013 <\/strong>Residents in many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florida<\/a> cities still struggling with damage from Hurricane <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/milton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milton<\/a> also continue to navigate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/flood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flooding<\/a> a week after the hurricane made landfall.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">FOX News Multimedia Reporter Bowen Kedrowicz, who went to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/florida\/land-o'lakes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Land O&#8217; Lakes<\/a>, Florida to speak to residents whose neighborhoods are still impacted, said flags posted in floodwaters show how high the waters have gotten.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">He said one flag showed water had at one point reached nearly 3 feet in height. She said the flooding has also brought some unusual creatures to their neighborhood. &#8220;As we&#8217;re going through, we&#8217;re seeing there&#8217;s literally bass and crappie and tilapia in our street, swimming around,&#8221; Thorne said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Pasco County Sheriff&#8217;s Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said they haven&#8217;t received any reports of fish or alligators swimming in floodwaters, but warn residents should still be cautious.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\">\u2018We got gators in our backyard\u2019<\/h2>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">In Hillsborough County, water from Baker Creek has flooded Seffner&#8217;s Shangri La neighborhood, leaving several roads and homes underwater. Some backyards have now become extensions of a nearby lake, giving alligators extra space to swim right up to homes.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;We got gators in our backyard, water in the house,&#8221; Seffner resident Kristy Sloan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox13news.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told FOX 13 Tampa<\/a>. &#8220;The gator shows up to our back door. We just now witnessed him swimming across the backyard back out into the lake.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">With the gators getting so close to their homes, now they&#8217;re concerned about their safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;If we could get some help. And somebody to pump this water out of our lake,&#8221; she pleaded.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The FWC&#8217;s website said alligators are often seen more frequently in floodwaters, and to give them space and respect as you usually would.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The commission said to never try and conduct a wildlife rescue during or after a hurricane or tropical storm if it puts a person in a dangerous situation. When encountering <a href=\"https:\/\/myfwc.com\/conservation\/you-conserve\/wildlife\/injured-orphaned\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sick, injured or orphaned wildlife,<\/a> the FWC said to note the location of the animal and report it to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or to contact the appropriate FWC regional office.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\">St. Johns River could take weeks to recede from major flood stage<\/h2>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Another river that will stubbornly remain above flood stage well after Milton is the St. Johns River that flows for 310 miles along Florida&#8217;s eastern coast.<\/p>\n<div class=\"featured featured-video video-ct\">\n<div class=\"video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"info\">\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p class=\"sub-text\">Rivers and streams continue to rise in Florida one week after deadly Hurricane Milton slammed the state with damaging winds and torrential rain. Many residents have been evacuated due to the water flowing into communities hit hard by the storm.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Flooding extends for much of the length of the river, with major flooding still reported in Astor, Deland and Geneva.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The river only changes 27 feet in elevation from start to finish, meaning it only drops about one inch per mile, leading to a very slow draining process. Tidal flow at the mouth of the river near Mayport north of Jacksonville can reverse the flow of the river for as much as 160 miles.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">This week, king tides and strong onshore flow off the Atlantic are working to add additional resistance to the river drainage process &#8211; and even cause the river to rise again. As such, the river is forecast to remain above major flood stage at least into next week.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">History says the wait for normalcy could be even longer.
