It&#8217;s the first time that exports contracted this year and was down sharply from a revised growth rate of 5.5% in August.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>September&#8217;s import growth came in at 2.1% also missing expectations of economists who expected growth of 3.2%. The figure was down from August&#8217;s growth of 2.3%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> rose 0.8% in early trading.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s unemployment rate for September in at 4.1%, slightly down from a Reuters poll that expected it to remain unchanged from August at 4.2%.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s labor participation rate slightly increased to 67.2% in September, up 0.1 percentage points from August as well as forecasts.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s Kospi was trading up 0.1%, while the small-cap Kosdaq was down 0.3%.<\/p>\n<p>The Hong Kong <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\">Hang Seng index<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> opened up 1.9% following a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/16\/hong-kong-announces-measures-to-address-housing-affordability-crisis.html\">policy announcements<\/a> from its chief executive on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<p>The CSI 300 was trading up 0.7% at open. <\/p>\n<p><span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-7\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/2330-TW\/\">Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> is set to report earnings later Thursday.
