The former longtime board member at <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/nexstar-media-group\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nexstar-media-group\" data-tag=\"nexstar-media-group\">Nexstar Media Group<\/a> segued to a management role in October 2022 after <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/08\/the-cw-nexstar-new-owner-closes-deal-broadcast-tv-1235092108\/\">Nexstar acquired a controlling 75% of The CW<\/a>. Previous 50-50 network partners Paramount\u00a0Global and Warner Bros. Discovery each have retained 12.5% stakes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMiller and programming chief Brad Schwartz, who is expected to replace him, oversaw a dramatic shift in strategy. Since launching in 2006, the fifth-largest broadcast network had primarily served as a platform for the scripted dramas produced by its corporate parents. Under Nexstar, spending was slashed and live sports and weekend programming joined the fold, and unscripted fare elbowed out all but a small handful of the prior slate. Nexstar execs estimated they would turn a profit at <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-cw\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-cw\" data-tag=\"the-cw\">The CW<\/a> by 2025 and have recently said that target remains in sight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tPerry Sook, CEO of Nexstar, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/10\/the-cw-president-dennis-miller-nexstar-ceo-perry-sook-broadcast-network-1236118056\/\">saluted Miller<\/a> for \u201cbroadening the appeal\u201d of The CW in the company\u2019s official announcement of the exec\u2019s exit. The news was <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/10\/dennis-miller-exits-cw-president-1236117960\/\">first reported by Deadline<\/a> earlier Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHere is Miller\u2019s full memo:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pullquote pullquote-deadline larva \/\/ memo lrv-u-background-color-brand-secondary-light\">\n<p>It has been exactly two busy and energizing years since I segued from the Nexstar Board to help put The CW on the best trajectory for success in today\u2019s broadcast business.\u00a0 I promised Perry I would bring in a topflight team in all the key positions, broaden the network\u2019s program offerings, add premium sports and establish a clear path to profitability. Together, we are now on course to achieving those ambitious goals. As the network continues to gain momentum, I feel now is the perfect time to hand the reins over to my longtime colleague and friend Brad Schwartz and the stellar team we have assembled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve come quite a distance.\u00a0 We went from zero to 500 hours of sports on The CW\u00a0with partnerships ranging from ACC football and basketball to NFL films, to WWE NXT wrestling, NASCAR, LIV Golf and Pac 12.\u00a0 We\u2019ve experienced record ratings growth in the past few weeks with live sports, primetime wrestling and our new game shows \u201cScrabble\u201d and \u201cTrivial Pursuit.\u201d\u00a0 By making all these strategic moves, we have significantly enhanced value for our affiliates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You have all\u00a0been a meaningful part of an important transformation for The CW.\u00a0 While change at times, can be bumpy and uncomfortable, it\u2019s the only path forward in today\u2019s media environment.\u00a0 I\u2019m lucky to have gotten to know so many of you along the way and will miss the\u00a0regular interaction, debates, discussions, and ultimate camaraderie\u00a0we built together.\u00a0After serving eight years on the Board of Nexstar and two years overseeing The CW,\u00a0I believe\u00a0you are now in an enviable position to continue building an incredibly valuable fifth broadcast network.\u00a0 A network\u00a0of which you can all be quite proud.
