Swivel 180 degrees back from the moon to look west for the bright planet Venus and the bright twinkling, reddish star star Arcturus, the brightest star in the constellation Bo\u00f6tes; the comet will be high above a point roughly halfway between them.<\/p>\n<p>Think of it this way; if Arcturus and Venus are the ends of a coat-hanger, the comet is the hook. With this knowledge you should be able to find the comet with your naked eyes, but since you\u2019ll be outside during twilight and there will be a lot of moonlight, take any pair of binoculars to speed-up the process.<\/p>\n<p>As a bonus, when you do locate comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, a pair of binoculars will give you a great view.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"embed-base image-embed embed-1\" role=\"presentation\"><figcaption><fbs-accordion class=\"expandable\" current=\"-1\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"color-body light-text\">When and where to see the bright Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS between Oct. 11 through Oct. 21 as it rises <span class=\"plus\" data-ga-track=\"caption expand\">&#8230; [+]<\/span><span class=\"expanded-caption\"> higher into the sky and becomes more visible against darker skies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/fbs-accordion><small>Sky &amp; Telescope illustration (used with permission)<\/small><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"subhead-embed color-accent bg-base font-accent font-size text-align\">How Do You Pronounce \u2018Tsuchinshan?\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Tsuchinshan is the English name for the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing, China, which discovered comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS in January 2023. That observatory is also commonly called Zijinshan.
