And yet, this acknowledgment hasn\u2019t made any of the budding criticism around the movie, out Nov. 22, any easier to encounter. When the official poster for <em>Wicked<\/em> wasn\u2019t an exact replica of the illustrated Broadway artwork, fans made their own edits to it \u2014 but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/cynthia-erivo\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cynthia-erivo\" data-tag=\"cynthia-erivo\">Cynthia Erivo<\/a>, who portrays Elphaba in the film, has called the changes \u201cthe wildest, most offensive thing I have seen.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tErivo sounded off on her Instagram Story after coming across fan-made posters that edited the <em>Wicked <\/em>poster to show Elphaba with her eyes covered by a black witch hat. The new photos also adjusted the placement of Glinda\u2019s (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/ariana-grande\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ariana-grande\" data-tag=\"ariana-grande\">Ariana Grande<\/a>) hand to the position of the original poster. \u201cThe original poster is an ILLUSTRATION,\u201d the actress wrote. \u201cI am a real life human being, who chose to look right down the barrel of the camera to you, the viewer \u2026because, without words we communicate with our eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"\/>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe next slide of Erivo\u2019s Instagram Story shares the original poster, as opposed to the edited one she reposted from a fan account. \u201cLet me put this right here, to remind you and cleanse your palette.\u201d The side by side comparison highlights other tweaks, including the addition of a red lip instead of the green lipstick of the film poster. \u201cOur poster is an homage not an imitation,\u201d Erivo continued. \u201cTo edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me. None of it is cute,\u201d she said. \u201cIt degrades me.
