None were hospitalized.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is not a concern at this point about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/infectious-disease\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">human-to-human transmission<\/a>, according to the agency.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pull-quote\">\n<p class=\"quote-text\">&#8220;Evidence continues to suggest only animal-to-human spread of the virus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> <!----><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Given the amount of exposure to infected cows, evidence continues to suggest only animal-to-human spread of the virus in California,&#8221; said the CDPH statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Additionally, based on CDC\u2019s genomic sequencing of three California bird flu cases, there is no evidence to suggest an increased ability for the virus to infect or spread between people and no known reduced susceptibility to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/healthy-living\/medications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">antiviral medications<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/potential-outbreak-bird-flu-testing-available-humans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>IN A POTENTIAL OUTBREAK, IS BIRD FLU TESTING AVAILABLE FOR HUMANS? an expert noted.<\/span> <span>(iStock)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;California has one of the more comprehensive programs to find avian influenza in its cattle herds, and when they find sick cows, they monitor exposed health care workers,&#8221; she went on.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The disease has been mostly very mild, so it will only be detected if looked for.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Should people be concerned?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s not known whether the strain that is causing avian flu in cows will ever mutate into a strain that can be spread from human to human, according to Doron.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Right now, with no evidence of human-to-human spread, it does not have the potential to become a human pandemic, but that could change,&#8221; she told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Obviously, scientists and public health officials should be concerned, and should take action to limit the spread of this disease in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/agriculture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">farm animals<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/bird-flu-pandemic-future-eu-warns-potential-spread-humans-due-lack-immune-defense\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>BIRD FLU PANDEMIC IN FUTURE? EU WARNS OF POTENTIAL SPREAD TO HUMANS DUE TO &#8216;LACK OF IMMUNE DEFENSE\u2019<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Farm owners and farm workers should also be concerned, she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They should be taking measures to protect those who work closely with animals, especially cows and chickens,&#8221; said an expert.<\/span> <span>(iStock)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0Sam Scarpino, PhD, director of AI and life sciences at Northeastern University in Boston, said he finds the rising number of human H5N1 cases &#8220;concerning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The more spillovers to humans, the more chances there are for the wrong variant to find itself in a person and spark an epidemic,&#8221; he told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s currently no evidence, however, that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/science\/wild-nature\/viruses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the virus<\/a> has mutated to become more infectious in humans, Scarpino echoed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pull-quote\">\n<p class=\"quote-text\">&#8220;At this point, there&#8217;s no excuse for a farm worker to die from an H5N1 infection.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> <!----><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Most likely, we are seeing the impact of an increasing number of infected dairy farms leading to an increasing number of human infections,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;California also has active efforts for both human and dairy cattle surveillance, so ascertainment may be higher than in other states.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Precautions for prevention<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Although experts say the risk for human-to-human transmission remains low, they recommend certain\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">public health precautions<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People who have close contact with animals, particularly farm animals and wild birds, should be taking precautions,&#8221; Doron advised.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/cdc-webmd-give-update-current-bird-flu-outbreak-alert-not-alarmed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>CDC, WEBMD GIVE UPDATE ON CURRENT BIRD FLU OUTBREAK<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The CDC also recommends that farm workers wear personal protective equipment \u2014 such as gloves, goggles and face shields \u2014 and that farms follow guidance to prevent the spread of the virus between animals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even if a large outbreak isn&#8217;t sparked, the risk to farm workers is clearly higher, and we need to ensure they are protected,&#8221;
