Three of the men died, and four were injured, Mr. Tutor said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The remains of two victims had been recovered as of 7:30 p.m. local time, and emergency responders were working to recover the third victim, Mr. Tutor said. \u201cKeep us in your prayers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">It was not clear who the men worked for. Sheriff Paul Mullins of Simpson County <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wlbt.com\/2024\/10\/16\/officials-3-dead-4-critical-condition-simpson-county-bridge-collapse\/\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">told WLBT<\/a>, an NBC affiliate station in Jackson, Miss., that the four people injured were in critical condition. The sheriff\u2019s department did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">It was unclear on Wednesday evening what had caused the collapse. A spokeswoman for the Mississippi Department of Transportation declined to answer additional questions on Wednesday evening but said that it would share more information when it becomes available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">According to the department, the bridge has been closed to traffic since Sept. 18 as part of a bridge replacement project.
