FOX Weather Meteorologist Bob Van Dillen breaks down the latest from the report.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><strong>NEW YORK <\/strong>\u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/winter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Winter<\/a> will be here before we know it, and the emergence of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/la-nina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Ni\u00f1a<\/a> weather pattern could have an impact on the types of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/winter-weather\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">winter weather<\/a> conditions we see in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S.<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">NOAA\u2019s Climate Prediction Center (CPC) released its official winter outlook for 2024-25 on Thursday and broke down different temperature and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/precipitation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">precipitation<\/a> trends for the upcoming season, as well as expected changes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/drought\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drought<\/a> conditions across the country.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">CPC forecasters said they still expect a La Ni\u00f1a to develop during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/fall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fall<\/a> and play a role in temperatures and precipitation trends across the country. However, the La Ni\u00f1a that develops is expected to be weak and short-lived, forecasters said.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Generally, a La Ni\u00f1a pattern means wetter and cooler weather for the northern tier of the U.S. and warmer, drier weather across the southern tier. That seems to fall in line with what CPC forecasters predict for the winter.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/how-to-watch-fox-weather-on-tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\">Temperature outlook<\/h2>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/CPC%20Temps%20Outlook%20Winter%2024-25.png?\"\/><figcaption>This graphic shows the temperature outlook for the 2024-25 winter season.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The winter weather outlook is favoring above-average temperatures for most of the U.S. from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/southwest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Southwest<\/a> eastward to include most of the central U.S., as well as all of the eastern U.S. from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/southeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Southeast<\/a> through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/mid-atlantic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mid-Atlantic<\/a> into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/northeast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northeast<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/new-england\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New England<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Farther north, the CPC highlighted areas of the northern tier from the Pacific <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/northwest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northwest<\/a> into the northern Rockies and northern Plains as seeing the highest likelihood of experiencing below-average temperatures.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The CPC says there\u2019s also a likelihood of above-average seasonal temperatures for northern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/alaska\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alaska<\/a>, while below-averages are likely for southern parts of the state.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/lifestyle\/farmers-almanac-old-farmers-almanac-issue-dueling-winter-outlooks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>FARMERS ALMANACS ISSUE DUELING WINTER OUTLOOKS: \u2018GENTLER\u2019 OR \u2018WHIRLWIND\u2019?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\">Precipitation outlook<\/h2>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/CPC%20Precip%20Outlook%20Winter%2024-25.png?\"\/><figcaption>This graphic shows the precipitation outlook for the 2024-25 winter season.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The seasonal precipitation outlook from the CPC shows enhanced probabilities of below-average totals along most of the southern tier of the country from the Southwest through the southern Plains, along the Gulf Coast and into the Southeast.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The CPC says parts of southeastern Alaska and the Alaska Panhandle, may see below-average precipitation totals this winter.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/la-nina-stuck-neutral-winter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>WILL LA NI\u00d1A ARRIVE IN TIME FOR WINTER?<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">However, the CPC says the greatest chances of below-average precipitation totals are expected in the Southwest and southern Plains.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Chances of above-average precipitation this winter are expected in parts of the Pacific Northwest, the northern Rockies, parts of the Great Lakes region and western and northern Alaska.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/farmers-almanac-winter-outlook-2024-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>FARMERS\u2019 ALMANAC WINTER OUTLOOK CALLS FOR \u2018COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF SNOW, RAIN, SLEET AND ICE\u2019<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\">Drought outlook<\/h2>\n<div data-v-b8684aba=\"\">\n<div class=\"freeform-content\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" src=\"https:\/\/media.foxweather.com\/weather\/Seasonal%20Drought%20Outlook.png\"\/><figcaption>This graphic shows the the drought outlook through Jan. 31.<br \/><strong>(FOX Weather)<\/strong><\/figcaption><hr\/>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Drought conditions in the U.S. will also be a concern through at least the end of January.
