{"id":115561,"date":"2024-10-18T12:36:48","date_gmt":"2024-10-18T05:36:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=115561"},"modified":"2024-10-18T12:36:48","modified_gmt":"2024-10-18T05:36:48","slug":"weight-loss-drugs-could-reduce-risk-of-overdoses-new-study-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=115561","title":{"rendered":"Weight-loss drugs could reduce risk of overdoses, new study says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"dateline\">WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 <\/span>A new<a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/add.16679\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/add.16679\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\"> study<\/a> suggests that medications like Ozempic could help reduce the risk of overdose and alcohol intoxication in people with substance abuse disorders.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Fatima Cody Stanford, an associate professor of medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital said she&#8217;s an advocate for this type of research.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think these are actually encouraging studies,&#8221; Stanford said.<\/p>\n<p>This specific study, published in the journal &#8220;Addiction,&#8221; suggests that weight-loss medications may reduce the risk of overdose and alcohol intoxication.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re seeing that these medications which are glucagon-like-peptide one receptor agonists and what we call GIPs, seem to have broad-scale use,&#8221; said Stanford. <\/p>\n<p>Researchers looked at the health records of over a million people, finding that of those who took a weight-loss drug, 40% had a lower chance of overdosing and 50% had a lower chance of getting drunk.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I think that there&#8217;s promise and potential for these becoming a use case scenario where we actually have data and actually potentially have approval for these agents in the future,&#8221; Stanford said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dr. David Lau, a professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Calgary said the study provides supportive evidence of the unexpected benefits of these weight-loss drugs.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This class of medication may actually have benefits in terms of improving or reducing addictive behaviors,&#8221; said Lau.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In addition to potentially treating addiction, Stanford said these medications can also help break the stigma associated with substance abuse.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That we have therapy that can come along and help reduce the stigma and bias that these individuals have experienced for so long,&#8221; said Stanford.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to prescribing these medications to treat substance abuse, right now it isn&#8217;t possible, because they aren&#8217;t approved by the FDA for that purpose.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1660802\">\r\n<\/div>\r\n<script>(function(w,q){w[q]=w[q]||[];w[q].push([\"_mgc.load\"])})(window,\"_mgq\");\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kfoxtv.com\/news\/nation-world\/weight-loss-drugs-could-reduce-risk-of-overdoses-new-study-says-ozempic-wegovy-alcohol-intoxication-substance-abuse-fda-prescriptions-health\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 A new study suggests that medications like Ozempic could help reduce the risk of overdose and alcohol intoxication in people with substance abuse disorders.
