href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/tennessee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tennessee<\/a> dam that took the brunt of Hurricane <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/helene\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Helene<\/a>\u2019s historic flooding and was feared to be at the brink of failure has been given a relatively clean bill of health.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Engineers with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/100064558489210\/posts\/950635330431741\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tennessee Valley Authority said Thursday<\/a> that thorough inspections along the Nolichucky Dam using an underwater camera, laser measurements and drones have found that the dam structure has avoided any major damage.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">During the height of the storm, emergency managers scrambled to get people downriver to safety after water levels rose well over the dam, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/greenville-nolichucky-dam-river-flooding-saturday\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sparking fears of an &#8220;imminent breach.&#8221;<\/a> The TVA estimated water levels reached 8 feet over the record elevation. \u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"featured featured-image component-center\">\n<div class=\"m\"><picture><source media=\"(max-width: data-v-438398f6=\"\">While the dam held, the river caused significant damage to its right abutment, the TVA said, requiring continued repairs.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The Nolichucky River still caused widespread devastation downstream. \u00a0Floodwaters buried the town of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/tennessee\/erwin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Erwin<\/a>, leaving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/impact-plastics-erwin-tennessee-deaths-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">several dead at Impacts Plastics<\/a> when the waters rushed through the factory.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/erwin-tennessee-flooded-unicoi-county-hospital\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dozens had to be rescued via helicopter<\/a> from the rooftop of Unicoi County Hospital when floodwaters rose so fast and burst into the hospital that it was too late to evacuate on the ground.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/erwin-tennessee-flooded-unicoi-county-hospital\"><strong><u>\u2018DANGEROUS RESCUE OPERATION\u2019 SAVES DOZENS TRAPPED ON ROOF OF FLOODED TENNESSEE HOSPITAL<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">In all, at least 17 people have died in Tennessee from Hurricane Helene, which dropped 15-30
