He said, \u2018You need to get off the plane,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018What did I do?&#8217;\u201d Banks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcbayarea.com\/news\/local\/san-francisco\/bay-area-veteran-asked-to-deplane-delta-flight-due-to-threatening-shirt\/3683328\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told KNTV.<\/a><\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Banks complied and was escorted off the plane and onto the jet bridge where she finally learned why she was removed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said that shirt you\u2019re wearing is threatening,\u201d she said. \u201cI said, \u2018Are you kidding me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A dumbfounded Banks questioned the Delta employee before explaining that she was a veteran.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a Marine Corps vet. I\u2019m going to see my Marine sister. I\u2019ve been in the Marine Corps for 22 years and worked for the Air Force for 15 years. I\u2019m going to visit her.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cDo Not Give In To The War Within. The only way you\u2019re going to get back on the plane is if you take it off right now,\u201d Banks recalled.<\/p>\n<p>Banks, who was braless underneath her shirt, told the flight attendant to turn around so she could remove the seemingly polarizing shirt and replace it with a sweatshirt.<\/p>\n<p>The shirt is sold by the Til Valhalla Project as part of the \u201c22 a day collection,\u201d which brings awareness to the estimated 22 veterans who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.veterans.nd.gov\/news\/why-are-so-many-older-veterans-committing-suicide#:~:text=Although%20national%20tracking%20of%20veteran,whom%20are%2050%20or%20older.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">commit suicide each day.<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"single__inline-module inline-module inline-module--newsletter aligncenter aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-newsletter\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__inner\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__title-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__unsubmitted-title-wrapper\">\n<h3 class=\"inline-module__title headline headline--combo-sm-md\">\n\t\t\t\t\tStart and end your day informed with our newsletters\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report and Evening Update: Your source for today&#8217;s top stories\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"inline-module__title headline headline--combo-sm-md\">\n\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Suicides among active-duty military members\u00a0are reportedly at an all-time high since 9\/11, when records began, according to the USO. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>Over 30,000 active duty personnel and veterans who served in the military after 9\/11 have died by suicide \u2013 compared to the 7,057 service members killed in combat in those same 20 years, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/watson.brown.edu\/costsofwar\/papers\/2021\/Suicides\">research published in 2021.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Banks says her shirt was a symbol of the work she does helping her fellow veterans and having it removed caused her to be humiliated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like they just took my soul away.
