It said those injured had been airlifted to a hospital.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gp4euz0005356m8mceicje@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Holmes County Sheriff Willie March confirmed to CNN the shooting took place on a trail outside Lexington early Saturday morning. Emergency services had received a call about 12:30 am ET, Marsh said, and arrived in less than 15 minutes.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gp4euz0006356mu9l2jnlp@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A chaotic scene greeted them, he said. \u201cChaos. People running, people crying, people, you know, it was chaos because of the large number of people that were there.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gqnocb00003b6makhxtw4f@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            There have been at least 422 mass shootings this year in the United States, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunviolencearchive.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gun Violence Archive<\/a>, which, like CNN, defines a mass shooting as one that injures or kills four or more people, not including the shooter.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gp4euz0007356mfbu02yy0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Between 200 and 300 people attended the party, which followed a football game at the Holmes County Consolidated School\u2019s homecoming celebration, the AP reported.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gp4euz0009356melkydyx5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThree or four hours the game was over with and the people decided to go out there to the trail ride and I guess to have a party because they won,\u201d he said. \u201cThe school had nothing to do with it at all. They didn\u2019t put it on, they didn\u2019t participate in it \u2013 anything.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gp4ev0000a356m1ka9drwe@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Marsh said that, as far as he knew, the football players themselves were not present and the cause of the shooting was unclear.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gp4ev0000b356m58dziq72@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe\u2019re asking questions, but everyone\u2019s saying they didn\u2019t see an incident or squabble or anything,\u201d March said. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to find a motive ourselves.\u201d\n Johnson, a co-owner of the land where the party was taking place, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wapt.com\/article\/property-owner-and-victims-return-to-site-of-deadly-holmes-county-shooting\/62658598\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told CNN affiliate WAPT <\/a> the event was due to finish soon after the shots began.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gstq9r0002356m3tgg7rbd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe had 30 minutes to go, and I was about to comment, you know, \u2018It won\u2019t be long,\u2019 and that\u2019s when I heard the shots going off,\u201d he told WAPT.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gsw9dr0005356mrg51emxw@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Johnson said the shots were repeated and sounded \u201clike a machine gun.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gu311a00013b6m51nqs0zf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Events held at the field had security, which had previously led to weapons being confiscated, he said, but this time they got through.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gt2u04000b356mcr15bdp4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cYou\u2019ve got so much innocent blood that\u2019s being shed, that\u2019s what hurts me,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m an ordained minister and I\u2019d just like to be able to talk to our young people and tell them, you know, to, to love one another.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gsy6xg0008356mybyq1yhq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Johnson said his nephew was among those injured and his sons had also been present: \u201cIt was just the goodness of God that they didn\u2019t get shot up.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gp4ev0000c356mk7zrvr8c@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The incident marks the second weekend in a row there has been a mass shooting following homecoming festivities.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2gr0bxp00073b6m6i16nj23@published\" data-editable=\"text\" killed and another nine injured in a shooting<\/a> near Tennessee State University in Nashville on October 12 after that school\u2019s homecoming celebration, though police said it was \u201ckind of a sidebar\u201d celebration and not a reflection on the university.\n    <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async
