(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.koin.com\/\">KOIN<\/a>) \u2014 Area meteorologists and weather enthusiasts gathered Saturday at OMSI to talk about this year\u2019s upcoming winter. And one thing they agreed on is that, well, it will be winter.<\/p>\n<p>A weak La Nina is taking shape over the Pacific Ocean, which means a cooler and potentially wetter winter is in store for Portland and much of the Pacific Northwest.<\/p>\n<p>But, said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/pqr\/\">Portland National Weather Service<\/a> Meteorologist Noah Alviz, \u201cthat doesn\u2019t necessarily mean we many see a big snowstorm There are some La Nina years where it hardly snowed, but then there are some La Nina years where it snowed a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.koin.com\/weather\/portlands-2024-25-winter-weather-outlook\/?ipid=promo-link-block1\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tPortland\u2019s 2024-25 Winter Weather Outlook\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>The big question remains: Will Portland see ice, snow or a wind event this upcoming winter? The potential is there, but what\u2019s the timing? It\u2019s possible December into February could be the peak active weather timeframe across the Pacific Northwest this winter season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019re definitely going to see snow this winter,\u201d said April Elliott, an Avangrid Renewables meteorologist. \u201cI also think that we do have a chance of seeing some ice as well, so I would highly suggest getting those preparations in order.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.koin.com\/weather\/winter-weather-forecast-conference-open-to-the-public-saturday-at-omsi\/?ipid=promo-link-block2\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tWinter Weather Forecast Conference open to the public Saturday at OMSI\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cYou should always be prepared for any winter weather that may strike,\u201d Alviz said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The exact timing or number of major winter events is nearly impossible to forecast more than a week or two ahead of time.
