Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band and posthumous recognition for Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Alexis Korner, John Mayall, Norman Whitfield and Big Mama Thornton.<\/p>\n<aside id=\"ad-backstage-wrap\" class=\"ad-wrap backstage\" aria-label=\"advertisement\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWhere do I even begin? Cher is not one person,\u201d Zendaya said when inducting Cher. &#8220;Her name is just as legendary as her legacy.&#8221; Zendaya noted that Cher, 78, is the only woman to have a No. 1 hit on a Billboard chart in each of the past seven decades. &#8220;Cher has got the goods,&#8221; Zendaya said before the singer performed a rocking version of \u201cIf I Could Turn Back Time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In her speech, Cher said she was inspired by Cinderella and thanked her mother for instilling in her to always get back up after defeat. \u201cThe one thing I got from my mom is to never give up,\u201d she said. \u201cI never give up. I&#8217;m talking to the women \u2014 down and out, we keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julia Roberts helped induct the Dave Matthews Band \u2014 she\u2019s a self-avowed superfan and she appeared in the band\u2019s video for the 2005 single, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/K4bFX1ZEKyA?si=whV1RHvrUzkvtuQY\">\u201cDreamgirl.\u201d<\/a> Roberts, wearing a band T-shirt, said the appeal of the group is \u201cspontaneous abandon\u201d and added that the first time she danced with her husband was to a Dave Matthews Band song.<\/p>\n<p>The jam band, with their mix of funk, folk-rock, jazz, blues and pop, then played \u201cAnts Marching\u201d \u2014 asking the crowd to sing the chorus \u2014 \u201cCrash\u201d and \u201cSo Much to Say.\u201d The arena was still full when they hit the stage after midnight, with the crowd singing along and swaying.<\/p>\n<aside id=\"ad-secondary-wrap\" class=\"ad-wrap secondary\" aria-label=\"advertisement\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Matthews hugged Roberts, handed out the trophies to his bandmates, and called the class of 2024 impressive. \u201cWe&#8217;re swimming in very deep water here,\u201d he said. He thanked the current and former members of the band and the bar owner who gave them a home in Charlottesville, Virginia. The nine-time Grammy-winner\u2019s best-known song is \u201dFamily Affair\u2033 from her triple-platinum 2001 album \u201cNo More Drama.\u201d \u201cWhen you listen to Mary, you understand you\u2019re not alone in heartbreak,\u201d Dre said.<\/p>\n<p>Blige, wearing shiny black hat, a sparkly dress and long black gloves and boots, sang a mix of her hits, including \u201cLove No Limit,\u201d \u201cBe Happy\u201d and \u201cFamily Affair.\u201d At the end of her set, a dancer brought up a cloak to wrap around her, in an echo of James Brown. She thanked her fans, her mom \u2014 a single mother raising children in the projects \u2014 and Method Man and Dr. Dre, who helped her earn a Grammy and an Emmy. \u201cMove with grace.
