However, state officials said a recent visitor has stolen the show \u2013 a colossal bear, so remarkably large, it is redefining the meaning of &#8220;fat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;We thought we had seen really fat Durango bears before. But this one takes the cake,&#8221; the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CPW_SW\/status\/1847382019468382682\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colorado Parks &amp; Wildlife Southwest Region<\/a> said. &#8220;It also probably ate the cake. The remainder is primarily insects and scavenged carcasses.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">While this particular black bear might not have raided local bakeries, the animal&#8217;s impressive size is a testament to its ability to thrive in Colorado&#8217;s wilderness.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The animal is equipped with a nose that is 100 times more sensitive than the human nose and can detect food from a distance of 5 miles, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/cpw.state.co.us\/living-bears#4257225834-370594956\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wildlife officials<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Most Colorado bears are active from mid-March through early November. In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/fall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fall<\/a>, they enter a period of compulsive overeating (hyperphagia), feeding for 22 hours a day and needing to gain 20,000 calories daily to survive hibernation.
