Her case captured national attention as a high-profile example of the politicization of the election system following former President Donald J. Trump\u2019s efforts to overturn his 2020 loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">A more serious felony charge, of conspiracy, was dismissed. Prosecutors are seeking a penalty of 90 days\u2019 probation, a period that would include the certification of this year\u2019s presidential election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Kris Mayes, the state\u2019s attorney general, said in a statement that the case\u2019s resolution \u201cshould serve as a strong reminder that I will not hesitate to use every tool available to uphold the rule of law and protect the integrity of Arizona\u2019s elections.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In an interview on Monday, Ms. Judd said she was \u201cfine with what happened today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cI needed it to be over,\u201d she said. \u201cI have a life again.\u201d But she maintained that \u201cI shouldn\u2019t have been in that courtroom,\u201d and said she worried about the effect her prosecution would have on other officials tasked with certifying voting results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cPeople will say, \u2018I\u2019d better certify the election no matter what,\u2019 and that\u2019s a problem,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have to vote for things we don\u2019t know or understand or believe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ms. Judd and Tom Crosby, both Republican supervisors in Cochise County, were <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/11\/29\/us\/politics\/arizona-election-indictment-cochise-county.html\" title=\"\">indicted last November<\/a> over an effort to delay the certification of the 2022 election results in their heavily Republican county. (The county\u2019s third supervisor, a Democrat, opposed the effort and was not charged.) They cited a range of claims raised by right-wing conspiracy theorists and called for a hand count of the ballots cast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In a <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/28\/us\/politics\/arizona-county-election-results-cochise.html\" title=\"\">2022 interview<\/a> with The New York Times, Ms. Judd acknowledged she did not think the election results in her county were in doubt and described her efforts as a protest against the certification of results in the state\u2019s large urban precincts, which lean Democratic. Ms. Judd eventually did vote to certify the election, following a Superior Court judge\u2019s order to do so, but Mr. Crosby did not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The indictments were the nation\u2019s only criminal charges filed over a refusal to certify an election, which Republican officials in several counties across the country have considered or pursued since Mr. Trump\u2019s attempts to discredit his 2020 election loss.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-2\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Charges are still pending against Mr. Crosby, who also pleaded not guilty.
