He has an MFA in creative writing from Fairfield University and played on the men&#8217;s soccer teams at Fordham and Southern Connecticut State universities.<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><a data-clubhouse-guid=\"fb7cf413-5156-9fc2-abe0-2273b89f70db\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/lad\/los-angeles-dodgers\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> slugger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/39832\">Shohei Ohtani<\/a>&#8216;s 50th home run ball from this major league season sold for $4.392 million at auction, including buyer&#8217;s premium, shattering the record paid for a baseball &#8212; or any sports ball, for that matter.<\/p>\n<p>The previous most expensive baseball was Mark McGwire&#8217;s record-breaking 70th home run ball from the 1998 MLB season, which Spawn creator Todd McFarlane paid $3 million for in early 1999.<\/p>\n<p>Ohtani&#8217;s 50th home run ball cemented him as the only player in the sport&#8217;s history to eclipse 50 home runs and 50 steals in a season. The ball, consigned to Goldin Auctions, marked one of the most anticipated modern, game-used memorabilia auctions in recent memory; Goldin&#8217;s site shows photos of the MLB-scuffed baseball and highlights the MLB Authentication hologram number &#8220;431048&#8221; and validation code &#8220;WSG.&#8221;<\/p>\n<aside class=\"inline editorial float-r\" data-behavior=\"article_related\">\n<h2 class=\"editorial-title\">Editor&#8217;s Picks<\/h2>\n<p>2 Related<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>&#8220;Shohei Ohtani made history with this baseball, and now, with the highest sale price for any ball ever sold, this legendary piece of sports memorabilia has made history again,&#8221; Ken Goldin, founder and CEO of Goldin, said in a statement. &#8220;We received bids from around the world, a testament to the significance of this iconic collectible and Ohtani&#8217;s impact on sports, and I&#8217;m thrilled for the winning bidder.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The auction house did not identify the buyer.<\/p>\n<p>Though litigation over the ball&#8217;s initial ownership is playing out in Florida, an agreement was reached on Oct. 7 between the auction house and &#8220;all parties&#8221; that allowed the auction to proceed and conclude apart from the lawsuits filed over the ball&#8217;s ownership.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement from Goldin Auctions, the agreement stipulated that all parties vying for ownership of the ball &#8220;have agreed to convey any and all of their ownership interests in the 50\/50 ball to the winner of the auction, giving the winner full assurance that they will receive free and clear title to the 50\/50 ball.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The nearly $4.4 million paid for the Ohtani ball will go into an account until the ownership lawsuits are resolved.<\/p>\n<p>Ohtani and the Dodgers will face the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"2b9cedf3-ce60-0bcf-fafe-8cd055255685\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/nyy\/new-york-yankees\">New York Yankees<\/a> in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1660802\">\r\n<\/div>\r\n<script>(function(w,q){w[q]=w[q]||[];w[q].push([\"_mgc.load\"])})(window,\"_mgq\");\r\n<\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/41954437\/dodgers-star-shohei-ohtani-50-50-ball-fetches-439-million-auction\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dan Hajducky, ESPN Staff WriterOct 23, 2024, 01:32 AM ET Close Dan Hajducky is a staff writer for ESPN.
