Akron, Ohio, Police Department school resource officer has been requested to not return to Firestone Community Learning Center after surveillance video captured him punching a student in the head multiple times.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8w00033b6mkrjfi28n@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The incident occurred on October 16 \u201cduring morning routine metal detector procedures,\u201d according to a news release form\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Akron Public Schools<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8w00043b6mkl77fzbj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThere was an interaction between a student and the SRO, which ultimately resulted in the officer using force against the student,\u201d the release said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8w00053b6ml0ed17j5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The student was instructed multiple times to go through the metal detector, which initially \u201cglowed red and beeped after he went through,\u201d according to a police report obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news5cleveland.com\/news\/local-news\/i-found-the-video-upsetting-akron-mayor-responds-to-school-resource-officer-punching-student-in-head\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN affiliate\u00a0WEWS<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8w00063b6m5jaqhkjq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The report indicates the officer said, in the interest of keeping the school safe, he wanted to make sure the student didn\u2019t have any weapons.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8w00073b6mxmyvad4h@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The incident escalated when the student appeared to try to push by two officers, who immediately began attempting to detain the student, surveillance video showed.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8w00083b6m39yxcl5q@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            An officer verbally told the student he was under arrest and grabbed his arms for handcuffing when the student began resisting, the report said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8w00093b6msfv384pj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            After around 25 seconds of struggling with the student, the officer threw three punches towards the side of his head with a closed fist, according to the report.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8w000a3b6ma74h7q5z@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The punches brought the student to the ground, where officers finished handcuffing him before escorting him out of the school without further incident, the report said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8w000b3b6mo79kjgq2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Officers later learned the student had a cell phone, which isn\u2019t allowed in school, according to the report.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8x000c3b6maiv5y1aa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Superintendent Michael Robinson reviewed the video footage and determined the actions taken by the SRO were unacceptable, according to the school district\u2019s release.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8x000d3b6mf3tykw70@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe deeply value the partnership we have with law enforcement and the crucial role SROs play in ensuring the safety of our students and building relationships and trust within our community,\u201d Robinson said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2lj4o8x000e3b6mmoczcc9w@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cAt the same time, it is equally important that accountability is upheld when incidents like this occur.
