The boarding process begins, and the gate is swarmed with passengers before their zones have been called.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">They\u2019re popularly known as \u201c<a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.nytimes.com\/artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com\/2013\/01\/07\/tweet-this-hashtag-named-word-of-the-year-by-american-dialect-society\/index.html\" title=\"\">gate lice<\/a>\u201d and, despite being <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/11\/03\/travel\/whose-feet-are-those-negotiating-air-travel-etiquette.html\" title=\"\">shamed<\/a> and <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qhxlZC8BZJ4\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">mocked<\/a> in popular culture, U.S. airports are still experiencing outbreaks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Enter American Airlines, which recently announced that it is in the early phase of testing a new technology to help with these pesky critters.
