As <a href=\"https:\/\/spacenews.com\/blue-origin-conducts-first-flight-of-second-human-rated-new-shepard\/\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\"><i>SpaceNews <\/i>reports<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/elon-musk-feud-jeff-bezos-spacex-starship\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">Jeff Bezos<\/a>-owned company didn&#8217;t release flight statistics to the public as it normally does.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the vehicle appeared to have reached an altitude nearly two miles short of what it typically achieves, based on the launch&#8217;s livestream. Blue Origin confirmed to <i>SpaceNews <\/i>that the spacecraft&#8217;s capsule hit an altitudinal peak of 63.6 miles \u2014 whereas a previous flight reached 65.4 miles.<\/p>\n<p>This was apparently close enough to the mark for Blue Origin, which refrained from explaining why New Shepard flew lower than usual. &#8220;Flight performance was nominal and on target for this shakeout mission,&#8221; a spokesperson told <i>SpaceNews<\/i>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"font-k text-4 font-black  lg:border-b border-gray-900 pb-1\">Flying Colors<\/h2>\n<p>The latest New Shepard model comprises a first stage rocket called Booster 5 and Blue Origin&#8217;s new crew capsule, RSS K\u00e1rm\u00e1n Line, which saw its first flight with this mission. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueorigin.com\/news\/blue-origin-debuts-second-human-rated-new-shepard-rocket\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">statement<\/a>, the company claims that K\u00e1rm\u00e1n Line \u2014 named after a commonly agreed-upon boundary between the Earth&#8217;s atmosphere and space \u2014 will have improved performance and reusability over its predecessor, which has carried out <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/blue-origin-astronauts-foliage-capsule\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">eight crewed missions to date<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Originally, the new model was supposed to launch on October 7, but was postponed due to a technical issue. A new attempt a week later was scrubbed again because of a GPS error.<\/p>\n<p>During this flight test, the rocket-capsule stack separated about four minutes after liftoff. The booster then guided itself back to the launch site and performed a controlled landing.<\/p>\n<p>Several minutes later, the capsule followed by parachuting down to an open stretch of desert.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"font-k text-4 font-black  lg:border-b border-gray-900 pb-1\">Loaded Up<\/h2>\n<p>Along with demonstrating the vehicle&#8217;s flight capabilities, the NS-27 mission also carried a dozen payloads, five of which were on the booster, and seven inside the crew capsule.<\/p>\n<p>Largely for research purposes, these contained new navigation systems for New Shepard and its bigger cousin, the heavy-lift rocket <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/jeff-bezos-blue-origin-rocket-explodes-testing\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">New Glenn<\/a>, along with light detection and ranging sensors to be used in future lunar missions, Blue Origin said.<\/p>\n<p>All told, the test continues Blue Origin&#8217;s return to launch form, after New Shepard <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/blue-orgin-capsule-grounded\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">was grounded for six months<\/a> as the result of a botched flight with its flagship vehicle <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/the-byte\/blue-origin-abort-mission\" class=\"underline hover:text-the-byte hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff0033\">over two years ago<\/a>.
