The provider went over the same spot too many times, wearing away at the first few layers of skin.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cAt the time she never said anything about it but I was actually bleeding,\u201d Nielsen recalled. \u201cShe only said five or six days later over a message that she\u2019d noticed that I was bleeding quite a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Because she was bleeding, the provider, who she didn\u2019t name, was cleaning the area \u2014 with what she suspects was toner \u2014\u00a0that resulted in a chemical burn on the \u201cnew, raw skin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the time it was stinging quite bad and she kept asking, \u2018Are you okay,&#8217;\u201d she said. \u201cNow I understand why she was asking that.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The chemical burns were supposedly a result of improper microneedling practice. <span class=\"credit\">Kennedy News and Media<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Even months later, Nielsen said the area that was burned and now scarred is different than the rest of her complexion. She suspects this is permanent. <span class=\"credit\">Kennedy News and Media<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While the provider assured Nielsen to just \u201ckeep an eye\u201d on the area \u2014\u00a0which was not just red but a patch of white \u2014\u00a0she noticed that the skin \u201cwas weeping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was like \u2018surely this isn\u2019t normal,&#8217;\u201d she said. \u201cI was panicking the night that it happened. I washed it with water and didn\u2019t put anything on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When she raised concerns to the provider, her messages were ignored \u2014\u00a0that is, until Nielsen said she was headed to the emergency room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I woke up the next morning the whole thing looked bruised. It had gone all horrible and purple,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt had stopped weeping but it was wet to touch. It was really, really swollen. It was pretty much the entirety of my cheek all the way up to near my eye.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Nielsen said she was upset by the provider\u2019s response after her messages were ignored. <span class=\"credit\">Kennedy News and Media<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Nielsen said the aesthetics provider tried to blame her for causing the reaction. <span class=\"credit\">Kennedy News and Media<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the hospital, doctors confirmed that it was, indeed, a chemical burn. Luckily, it wasn\u2019t infected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey said what should\u2019ve happened at the time is if she thought something wasn\u2019t right she shouldn\u2019t have carried on doing what she was doing,\u201d said Nielsen, who had been a loyal customer of the beauty clinic since November 2023. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe shouldn\u2019t have let me leave with my skin the way it was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nielsen claimed that the aesthetics provider tried to blame her for the chemical burn, upsetting her with the lack of \u201caccountability.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt absolutely wasn\u2019t anything I\u2019d done. I\u2019d not changed anything that I used,\u201d Nielsen said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the skincare products that I was using were what she\u2019d recommended for me to use. I\u2019d not had any problem at all with any of the other treatments I\u2019d had.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The provider attempted to offer complimentary services in return for the inconvenience rather than help pay for Nielsen\u2019s medical treatments, which Nielsen denied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just like \u2018um, it\u2019s okay, I\u2019m booked in with someone else who\u2019s medically trained. I\u2019m okay thanks,&#8217;\u201d she said. \u201cThere was no accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Nielsen struggled with hormonal acne and scarring and sought microneedling treatments as a way to remedy the problem areas on her complexion. <span class=\"credit\">Kennedy News and Media<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Nielsen said that even now, wearing makeup can cause the area to \u201cflare up.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Kennedy News and Media<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Now, Nielsen regrets ever getting the treatment, saying that the ordeal made her realize she doesn\u2019t \u201creally need it,\u201d despite her struggles with hormonal acne and subsequent scarring.<\/p>\n<p>The microneedling scars made it difficult for her to go to work immediately after the incident, and even months later the area on her face is not the same as before.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven now if I rub my finger over it now it\u2019s a completely different texture to the rest of my face. It\u2019s never fully going away,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first time I put makeup on was only about a month ago. Because it\u2019s such a sensitive area now, even wearing makeup for a day really made it flare up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While she\u2019s seeing a professional to help minimize the appearance of the scar and heal it, she is swearing off \u201charsh\u201d skin treatments and using her experience as a warning to others, advising patients to \u201clook into the background\u201d of their providers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe girl who did it to me did two days of training.
