{"id":118771,"date":"2024-10-27T00:59:27","date_gmt":"2024-10-26T17:59:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=118771"},"modified":"2024-10-27T00:59:27","modified_gmt":"2024-10-26T17:59:27","slug":"patients-taking-ozempic-are-up-to-70-percent-less-likely-to-develop-alzheimers-research-finds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=118771","title":{"rendered":"Patients Taking Ozempic Are Up to 70 Percent Less Likely to Develop Alzheimer\u2019s, Research Finds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"incArticle\">\n<div class=\"space-y-4 lg:space-y-0\">\n<p><span>Image by<!-- --> <!-- -->Getty \/ Futurism<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy has once again <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/neoscope\/semaglutide-opioid-overdose\" class=\"underline hover:text-neoscope hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff9900\">proven to have health effects<\/a> far outside of weight loss in a huge analysis linking it to lowered Alzheimer&#8217;s disease risk.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at more than a million patient records, <a href=\"https:\/\/medicalxpress.com\/news\/2024-10-popular-diabetes-weight-loss-drug.html\" class=\"underline hover:text-neoscope hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff9900\">researchers at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine discovered<\/a> that diabetic\u00a0seniors on semaglutide were far less likely to develop Alzheimer&#8217;s than their counterparts who took other diabetes medications.<\/p>\n<p>This effect was most stark when comparing semaglutide to the old-school diabetes injectable insulin, with patients on semaglutide showing a whopping 70 percent lowered risk of Alzheimer&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>In the study, <a href=\"https:\/\/alz-journals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/alz.14313\" class=\"underline hover:text-neoscope hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff9900\">published in the journal <em>Alzheimer&#8217;s and Dementia<\/em><\/a>, the Case Western researchers led by biomedical informatics expert Rong Xu used medical records from patients over the age of 60 with Type 2 diabetes to run a randomized statistical analysis that mimics a clinical trial.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the CWR team looked at three years of healthcare data for folks who had just begun taking diabetes drugs like insulin, Ozempic, and the GLP-1 drug liraglutide that&#8217;s sold under the brand name Victoza. Their goal: to see how well they fared over time, and to see if there were links to be drawn between their diabetes medications and their cognitive health outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/ozempic-linked-lower-alzheimers-risk-people-type-2-diabetes-rcna176821\" class=\"underline hover:text-neoscope hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff9900\">interview with <em>NBC<\/em><\/a> about the findings, Xu said she was surprised that semaglutide outperformed even liraglutide, which has also been <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/neoscope\/ozempic-like-drug-slows-alzheimers-study\" class=\"underline hover:text-neoscope hover:no-underline transition-all duration-200 ease-in-out\" style=\"text-decoration-color:#ff9900\">linked to slowed Alzheimer&#8217;s progression<\/a> in a different recent study.<\/p>\n<p>All the participants in the study had notably been prescribed Ozempic, which tops out at two milligrams per weekly injection, while its weight loss sister drug Wegovy\u00a0can be prescribed at the slightly higher dose of 2.4 mg.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If there is a higher dose form, are we going to see an even stronger effect?&#8221; Xu mused.<\/p>\n<p>As the study&#8217;s introduction notes, there haven&#8217;t yet been clinical trials completed looking specifically into whether semaglutide can have a protective effect when it comes to Alzheimer&#8217;s disease \u2014 though Novo Nordisk, the makers of Ozempic and Wegovy, is currently conducting Stage 3 trials into that very subject.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our results indicate that further research into\u00a0semaglutide&#8217;s use will need to be further investigated through randomized clinical trials,&#8221;
