{"id":118890,"date":"2024-10-27T08:47:48","date_gmt":"2024-10-27T01:47:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=118890"},"modified":"2024-10-27T08:47:48","modified_gmt":"2024-10-27T01:47:48","slug":"norwegian-scientists-uncover-disturbing-details-about-800-year-old-corpse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=118890","title":{"rendered":"Norwegian scientists uncover disturbing details about 800-year-old corpse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Researchers have unearthed new findings about a mysterious, centuries-old corpse that was dumped in a Norwegian castle\u2019s well.<\/p>\n<p>Most of what is known about Norway\u2019s early history comes from the Sverris Saga, writings which follow King Sverre Sigurdsson\u2019s reign through civil wars of the 12th and 13th centuries. <\/p>\n<p>Believed to have been penned by a close associate of the king, it covers battles in-depth \u2014 including one in 1197 when Bagler fighters with Sverre\u2019s enemy, the Roman Catholic Church, attacked a castle he was staying at in central Norway.<\/p>\n<p>The saga says the Baglers, who came from the south, \u201ctook a dead man and cast him into the well, and then filled it up with stones,\u201d potentially to contaminate the king\u2019s water source.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Excavations in 2014 and 2016 unearthed more of Well-man\u2019s remains and DNA analysis has now revealed additional insight into who he was. <span class=\"credit\">The Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Analyses of the skeleton retrieved from the well at Sverresborg in Trondheim, Norway in 2016 shed new light on a dramatic story from King Sverre\u2019s saga. <span class=\"credit\">The Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was assumed he was one of the king\u2019s men but little else was known about the identity of \u201cWell-man\u201d until a partial excavation of the Sverresborg Castle well \u2014 in the modern-day city of Trondheim \u2014 turned up the remains in 1938. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Further excavations in 2014 and 2016 led by Anna Petersen, an archaeologist at the Norwegian Institute of Cultural Heritage Research, turned up additional remains, including his left hand and skull. <\/p>\n<p>But scientists recently discovered that the man was from southern Norway, disproving the belief that he was one of King Sevrre\u2019s men, according to the study, which was published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/iscience\/fulltext\/S2589-0042(24)02301-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">journal iScience<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Ancient DNA analysis was performed by researchers on a tooth found among the remains at the Sverresborg well. <span class=\"credit\">The Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cPerhaps the Baglers threw one of their own dead into the well,\u201d researchers wrote.<\/p>\n<p>A lead author of the paper, Martin Ellegaard, also from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, used samples of a tooth to sequence the genome, according to the article, which revealed Well-man\u2019s gender and indicated that he likely had a medium skin tone, blue eyes and blond or light-brown hair. <\/p>\n<p>The findings also suggested that the man had a bad back and likely performed heavy manual labor. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>A piece at the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim dating back to about 1200 may represent King Sverre Sigurdsson.  <span class=\"credit\">Nidaros Cathedral Restoration Workshop (NDR).<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHe has been no one,\u201d Petersen told the outlet. \u201cBut now he has become someone.
