Trump should not be called a \u201cfascist\u201d or compared to Adolf Hitler, a rejection of Democrats\u2019 closing focus in the final days of the 2024 campaign on the eve of Mr. Trump\u2019s rally in Midtown Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">The embattled mayor, who has been indicted on federal bribery and corruption charges, made the comments at a time when Mr. Trump has been trying to make inroads with Black voters, and especially Black men, in his campaign against Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Ms. Harris has <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/10\/24\/us\/politics\/harris-town-hall-cnn-takeaways.html\" title=\"\">said in recent days that she agrees<\/a> with Mr. Trump\u2019s former White House chief of staff, Lt. Gen. John F. Kelly, that the former president <a class=\"css-yywogo\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/10\/22\/us\/politics\/john-kelly-trump-fitness-character.html\" title=\"\">meets the definition of a fascist<\/a>. Mr. Kelly also described Mr. Trump as offering praise for Hitler.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">Mr. Adams, mayor of America\u2019s largest city and one of the country\u2019s most prominent Black elected officials, was briefing reporters about security plans ahead of Mr. Trump\u2019s rally Sunday at Madison Square Garden when he was asked if he believed the former president was a fascist.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">\u201cI have had those terms hurled at me by some political leaders in the city, using terms like Hitler and fascist,\u201d said Mr. Adams, a former police officer. \u201cMy answer is no.
