Allergic responses can stem anywhere between some itchy eyes and sneezing to fatigue and difficulty breathing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0So when does this all become too much to handle?<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happened-when-she-discovered-black-mold\">What happened when she discovered black mold<\/h2>\n<p>One holistic health coach recently found herself answering that exact question. Posted on Aug. 21, Autumn Clayman (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@autumnclaymann\">@Autumnclaymann<\/a>) turned to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailydot.com\/tags\/tiktok\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TikTok<\/a> to share her recent endeavor with a not-so-healthy substance, black mold. Amassing over 3.7 million views and 71,000 likes, the video features Autumn sharing with viewers the tell-tell signs that point to black mold within a home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m currently healing from black mold after living in a moldy apartment,\u201d Autumn begins. \u201cSo I\u2019m gonna share some symptoms that I experienced.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Autumn sits in what seems to be her new home and shows pictures of the mold. Here you can see black and green spots spreading across the corners and walls of the apartment, almost as if from a scene in \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailydot.com\/tags\/the-last-of-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Last of Us<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first thing was burning. A burning sensation\u2014I would feel this all over my skin, specifically my face and my neck,\u201d Autumn says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Allegedly, immediately as Autumn stepped foot into her previous apartment, her skin would begin to burn. Almost as if the airborne pathogens hit her skin right as she walked in.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happens-when-black-mold-is-disturbed\">What happens when black mold is disturbed?<\/h2>\n<p>While black mold isn\u2019t necessarily an airborne type of mold, if the colony is disturbed, the mold\u2019s spores can detach from surrounding walls and become airborne. Which once inhaled, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/lung\/can-black-mold-kill-you\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">can lead to a weakened immune system<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Then Autumn began to explain her second symptom, eczema.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst it started off as like a little speck on my neck. And then it started spreading pretty quickly. It was spreading all over my arms, my legs, [and] my neck,\u201d Autumn says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And Autumn was exactly correct to link her eczema to the mold. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jessicafonteneaunutrition.com\/bloguk\/the-unexpected-connection-the-link-between-mould-and-dermatitis#:~:text=The%20Mould%2FDermatitis%20Connection&amp;text=It%20is%20believed%20that%20contact,patches%2C%20itching%20and%20often%20pain.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Studies show<\/a> that contact with mold spores, either via touch or inhalation can lead to both dermatitis and eczema.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe third thing is allergies and just congestion. I was feeling congested more than ever,\u201d Autumn says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Having sinus issues already, Autumn explains just how difficult it was for her to breathe in her apartment. And that this amount of difficulty\u00a0 wasn\u2019t quite in the norm for Autumn.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fourth thing is burning, itchy eyes. My eyes were always irritated and the fifth thing was extreme fatigue,\u201d Autumn says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Autumn, it felt as though no matter how much sleep she had gotten the night before, nothing could rid her of this severe tiredness.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI constantly felt exhausted and tired,\u201d Autumn says.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-she-identified-the-problem\">How she identified the problem<\/h2>\n<p>It took Autumn a while to identify what the problem was. Because, like mentioned before, mold isn\u2019t exactly always visible, it\u2019s hard to pinpoint it as the main reason a person may feel ill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI ran through all the scenarios. I spent a ton of money trying to figure out what was going on and my conclusion was \u2018It has to be my apartment.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These symptoms were a first for Autumn and she explained that her stress levels were the same as they were prior to moving, so she knew it had to be something else.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Eventually Autumn decided to test for mold within the apartment, regardless of the cost.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI ended up getting my place tested and ended up finding out that I have black mold,\u201d Autumn says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-happened-when-she-vacated-her-apartment\">What happened when she vacated her apartment<\/h2>\n<p>Shortly after, Autumn explains in a follow-up video that she was able to break her lease and find a new place to live. Since then, Autumn has found her health immensely getting better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy symptoms have healed rapidly, my skin is clearing up; I\u2019m starting to feel better,\u201d Autumn concludes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, Autumn\u2019s story wasn\u2019t done here. After posting the minute and a half long video, viewers quickly ran to the comment section, wanting more information.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-viewers-ask-questions-about-the-experience\">Viewers ask questions about the experience<\/h2>\n<p>In the comments section, viewers asked questions about the experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow can you test?\u201d wrote one user.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you detox?\u201d asked a second.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere do you find the mold?\u201d asked a third user.<\/p>\n<p>The list goes on. So, Autumn decided to post a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@autumnclaymann\/video\/7406029898629811498\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">different videos<\/a> to answer her viewers\u2019 lingering questions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Autumn explains that she found the mold in her original apartment within its air conditioning units.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-resolution-to-this-black-mold-nightmare\">A resolution to this black mold nightmare<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI guarantee that there was mold in other areas.\u00a0 But because testing is expensive, and landlords only fix what is visible and what they can see, they\u2019re not gonna test new areas,\u201d Autumn states.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Luckily for Autumn, after the debacle, she was able to both get her deposit back and break her lease. Since then, Autumn has found another place to live and has been working on bringing her health back to what it was prior.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt triggered an autoimmune that I didn\u2019t know I had,\u201d Autumn says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So while the road ahead may be long, it is safe to say Autumn has been doing better since the transition due to her new diet, new routine, and even new vitamins.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis whole experience has really changed my lifestyle and has been difficult.
