He planned to hold a news conference later in the day in Manhattan, his representatives said.<\/p>\n<p>Bannon also returned to his podcast and online show Tuesday morning, saying he was focused on helping Trump win the presidential election. He bashed Democrats and their agenda, asserting that <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/nancy-pelosi\">former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi<\/a><\/span> sent him to prison to silence his voice \u2014 despite a jury having convicted him and <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/capitol-siege-steve-bannon-congress-donald-trump-sentencing-36d412eba9e1609a030859852378ae3d\">a judge having sentenced him<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe four months in federal prison not only didn\u2019t break me, it empowered me,\u201d Bannon said. \u201cI am more energized and more focused than I\u2019ve ever been in my entire life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bannon, 70, reported to the prison July 1 after the Supreme Court rejected his bid to delay the prison sentence while he appeals his conviction.<\/p>\n<p>A jury <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/capitol-siege-steve-bannon-donald-trump-congress-government-and-politics-26c539434d968d642563b38c34a62916\">found Bannon guilty<\/a><\/span> in 2022 of two counts of contempt of Congress: one for refusing to sit for a deposition with the Jan. 6 House Committee and a second for refusing to provide documents related to his involvement Trump\u2019s efforts to overturn his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race.<\/p>\n<p>When he began serving his sentence in July, Bannon called himself a \u201cpolitical prisoner.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am proud of going to prison,\u201d he said at the time, adding that he was standing up Attorney General Merrick Garland and a \u201ccorrupt\u201d Justice Department.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, a Republican, is seeking to regain the presidency in <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/live\/election-2024-news-updates-harris-trump\">next week\u2019s election<\/a><\/span> against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.<\/p>\n<p>A federal appeals court panel <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/steve-bannon-contempt-congress-appeals-court-397cd470d2862816fea776b0d788a760\">upheld Bannon\u2019s convictions in May.<\/a><\/span> Bannon is now asking the full appeals court to hear his case. His legal team had argued that the congressional subpoena was invalid because Trump had asserted executive privilege. (AP video: John Minchillo)<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Bannon faces additional criminal charges in New York state court, alleging he <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/steve-bannon-crime-new-york-manhattan-donald-trump-19b6d86b69eeba1c6457df5e2748e82b\">duped donors<\/a><\/span> who gave money to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Bannon has pleaded not guilty to money laundering, conspiracy, fraud and other charges.
