that they will lose their jobs if they don\u2019t report to the office three days per week \u2014 just weeks after sparking backlash for <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/15\/business\/starbucks-ceo-brian-niccol-may-make-113m-working-remotely-in-posh-california-town\/\">allowing its new CEO<\/a> to work from his Southern California home.<\/p>\n<p>The Seattle-based coffeehouse chain will institute a new policy in January that will include a \u201cstandardized process\u201d to hold employees accountable if they fail to adhere to the company\u2019s return-to-office policy, according to a memo that was circulated to one of the company\u2019s divisions.<\/p>\n<p>Employees who don\u2019t meet the three-day-per-week threshold will bear consequences \u201cup to, and including, separation,\u201d according to the memo, which was first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-10-28\/starbucks-threatens-to-fire-staff-who-don-t-come-back-to-office?sref=MTy2GeXk\">reported by Bloomberg News.<\/a><\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Starbucks told corporate staffers they could be fired if they do not report to the office three days a week. <span class=\"credit\">Luis Boza\/NurPhoto\/Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The java giant had started requiring its approximately 3,500 corporate staffers to report to the office for a minimum of three days per week at the start of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are continuing to support our leaders as they hold their teams accountable to our existing hybrid work policy,\u201d the company said in a statement on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The stepped-up enforcement comes just weeks after Brian Niccol was installed as company CEO.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2018\/02\/13\/chipotles-new-ceo-helped-turn-around-taco-bell\/\">Last month, the former Chipotle chief executive<\/a> told employees that the company expected them to work wherever they need to in order to adequately do their jobs \u2014 though he added that the best place to do that is the office.<\/p>\n<p>When Niccol was first brought on board, it was reported that Starbucks would allow him to run the company remotely from a small office in his residence in Newport Beach, Calif. \u2014 some 1,200 miles away from corporate headquarters in Seattle.<\/p>\n<p>The company offered him the perk as an enticement to defect from Chipotle, the company he led for six successful years that included significant improvements in sales growth and overall performance.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Starbucks CEO Brian Southern California home to company headquarters in Seattle.<\/p>\n<p>The company later clarified that Niccol would spend a majority of his time at corporate headquarters.<\/p>\n<div the private jet and his allotment of miles to visit some of the company\u2019s stores worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrian\u2019s primary office and a majority of his time will be spent in our Seattle Support Center or visiting partners and customers in our stores, roasteries, roasting facilities and offices around the world,\u201d a company rep told The Post.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Starbucks is looking to rebound from a period of sluggish sales that have been weighed down by inflation. <span work for Starbucks, will be paid a base salary of $1.6 million.<\/p>\n<p>He will also rake in millions in additional cash depending on the company\u2019s yearly performance, according to Starbucks\u2019 filing.<\/p>\n<p>Niccol was brought in to replace Laxman Narasimhan, who <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/06\/22\/lifestyle\/starbucks-warned-to-chop-customer-wait-times-as-sales-slip\/\">helmed the company for less than two years.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script
