Italy, died from injuries she sustained during a ski accident, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fis-ski.com\/alpine-skiing\/news\/2024-25\/fis-expresses-deepestcondolences-for-the-loss-of-matilde-lorenzi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lorenzi was training on the Schnalstal Glacier on Monday when she fell and hit her head on the hard piste and suffered a traumatic brain injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are deeply saddened by the passing of Matilde Lorenzi,\u201d the organization said in their statement. \u201cFIS joins FISI [Italian Winter Sports Federation] President Flavio Roda and the entire Italian winter sports community in mourning, including coaches, athletes, teammates, the federal council, and all FISI staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Lorenzi] was tragically lost following a fall during a training session on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales,\u201d the organization reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Rising Italian skiing star Matilde Lorenzi tragically passed away at just 19 years old after suffering injuries during training, officials announced Tuesday. <span class=\"credit\">Matilde Lorenzi\/ Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lorenzi was airlifted to a hospital in nearby Bolzano after her fall but did not recover from the injuries to her head. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Her passing was announced soon after by the Italian National Defense Ministry, to which she was attached as a sports soldier\u2014 a member of the military who is financed by the state.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a tragic loss,\u201d gold-medal skier Lindsey Vonn wrote on Instagram. \u201cSending my thoughts to her family.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Lorenzi was 19 when she suffered the critical injury.  <span junior race in Santa Caterina Valfurva in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>During her nascent career, she competed almost exclusively in FIS races throughout Italy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lorenzi was crowned the Italian champion in the Super-G league following the 2023-24 season and she twice finished among the top 15 in the European Cup. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter
