{"id":120022,"date":"2024-10-30T10:26:48","date_gmt":"2024-10-30T03:26:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=120022"},"modified":"2024-10-30T10:26:48","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T03:26:48","slug":"man-who-threatened-fani-willis-sheriff-over-trump-investigation-gets-nearly-2-years-in-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=120022","title":{"rendered":"Man who threatened Fani Willis, sheriff over Trump investigation gets nearly 2 years in prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>ATLANTA (AP) \u2014 An Alabama man who <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fani-willis-pat-labat-threats-trump-indictment-479ec9db67e564b3ee9bfcef5df78450\">left threatening phone messages<\/a><\/span> for Fulton County <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-georgia-election-investigation-fani-willis-indictment-32bfdd2cca9d3184056836b208a78379\">District Attorney Fani Willis<\/a><\/span> and the county sheriff last summer because he was angry over an investigation into former President Donald Trump was sentenced Tuesday to nearly two years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur Ray Hanson II, of Huntsville, made the phone calls just over a week before <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-georgia-election-investigation-grand-jury-willis-d39562cedfc60d64948708de1b011ed3\">Trump and 18 others were indicted<\/a><\/span> in Fulton County in August 2023 over efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Federal prosecutors say Hanson left voicemails laced with profanity and racial slurs for Willis and Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge J.P. Boulee in Atlanta said he found Hanson\u2019s behavior \u201cappalling\u201d and that the victims\u2019 fear was \u201creal and legitimate.\u201d He sentenced Hanson to serve a year and nine months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He also ordered Hanson to pay a fine of $7,500.<\/p>\n<p>Hanson had <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-indictment-threats-fani-willis-guilty-plea-67ff666e9d0289269bebaa36ce151250\">pleaded guilty in June<\/a><\/span> to leaving threatening phone messages. Speaking for nearly 10 minutes during Tuesday\u2019s hearing, Hanson was tearful as he apologized to Willis and Labat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m truly sorry for making those phone calls,\u201d he said. \u201cThat is not who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Willis told the judge that the threats left her fearing not only for herself but for the lives of her daughters and her father. Before she\u2019s the district attorney, she\u2019s a mom, she told the judge: \u201cMom was really scared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Labat also briefly addressed the court, saying the threats exposed his family to \u201cthe ugly side of the job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Defense attorney Tyler Wolas told the judge that Hanson has a history of abusing alcohol. In pushing for a lesser sentence, he also said Hanson suffers from grand mal seizures and, after his arrest, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Wolas noted that Hanson had completed an anger management course and is regularly attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Three of Hanson\u2019s friends and his 19-year-old son told the judge that he is a good and generous person and that those phone calls don\u2019t reflect the man they know.<\/p>\n<p>Hanson said he had been drinking and didn\u2019t remember leaving the messages. He said he was \u201crepulsed and sickened\u201d when he heard the recordings. He said he is not racist, though he acknowledged it might sound that way, and said Willis and Labat did not deserve to be threatened.<\/p>\n<p>He used to be someone who was a regular commenter online and allowed himself to get caught up in a \u201csocial media frenzy,\u201d he said, adding that he has given up social media and stopped drinking.<\/p>\n<p>The Fulton County indictment on Aug. 14, 2023, was the fourth criminal case brought against Trump in a matter of months and was widely anticipated. When reporters asked shortly before it was returned <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-atlanta-indictment-republican-primary-7f4e9860859fbb71221b6a5163aaa42f\">whether Trump would have a mug shot taken<\/a><\/span> if he was charged, the sheriff said, \u201cUnless someone tells me differently, we are following our normal practices and so it doesn\u2019t matter your status, we\u2019ll have a mug shot ready for you.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Hanson called the Fulton County government customer service line and left voicemails for the prosecutor and the sheriff on Aug. 6, 2023. Prosecutors included transcripts of the messages in a sentencing memo submitted to the court.<\/p>\n<p>In a message for Willis, Hanson warned her to watch out, that she won\u2019t always have people around who can protect her and that there would be moments when she would be vulnerable. \u201cWhen you charge Trump on that fourth indictment, anytime you\u2019re alone, be looking over your shoulder,\u201d he said, according to the transcript.<\/p>\n<div class=\"Infobox\" data-module=\"\" data-gtm-region=\"What to know about the 2024 Election Today's news: Follow live updates from the campaign trail from the AP. They noted that his 19-year-old son lives with him and that his mother has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and has little time left to live. <\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Bret Hobson called Hanson\u2019s crime \u201cincredibly serious\u201d and said he caused real harm to the victims and their families. He asked for the sentence that was given, which was at the low end of federal sentencing guidelines. He argued that anyone who considers threatening a public official \u201cneeds to think prison is a possibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boulee said he would have given Hanson a longer sentence, but he took into account what his lawyers and loved ones said, as well as prosecutors\u2019 recommendation. But he made clear that he found Hanson\u2019s behavior unacceptable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo add insult to injury, you not only attacked them for doing their job, you attacked them because of the color of the skin,\u201d Boulee said. He said the racial slurs in the messages were an \u201cattempt to make them feel low and less valued.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Willis said after the hearing that she had forgiven Hanson. She said it was important that the judge mentioned the racist nature of the threats so that Black people know they can come into a courtroom and feel protected.<\/p>\n<p>Willis <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/georgia-prosecutor-fani-willis-courtney-kramer-election-a34954f2ed4123118e5690aed0e754a7\">is running for reelection<\/a><\/span>, and the case against Trump is largely on hold while a <span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-fani-willis-georgia-election-indictment-31ca3234b244126cbe412dc279fd0562\">pretrial appeal<\/a><\/span> is pending.
