{"id":120037,"date":"2024-10-30T11:23:47","date_gmt":"2024-10-30T04:23:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=120037"},"modified":"2024-10-30T11:23:47","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T04:23:47","slug":"dengue-fever-cases-rise-in-florida-after-hurricane-milton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=120037","title":{"rendered":"Dengue Fever cases rise in Florida after Hurricane Milton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft wp-block-nypost-editor-partner-article-links\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Cases of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/07\/10\/us-news\/dozens-of-nj-residents-sickened-with-dengue-fever\/\">mosquito-borne illness Dengue Fever <\/a>are popping up in Florida\u2019s Tampa Bay region weeks after Hurricane Milton left standing water across the state.<\/p>\n<p>Mosquitoes breed by laying eggs in or near standing water, and back-to-back hurricanes Milton and Helene left rivers flooded and standing water around west-central Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Since Milton\u2019s Oct. 9 landfall, the Hillsborough County Department of Health has confirmed four cases of locally acquired Dengue Fever.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Hillsborough County Public Works continues pumping floodwater out of communities, and the county Mosquito Management team is working to prevent the spread through aerial spraying.<\/p>\n<p>University of South Florida infectious disease professor Dr. John Sinnott told FOX 13 Tampa Bay that mosquitoes with Dengue usually stay close to their breeding grounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mosquitoes that spread Dengue only have a range of about 200 yards, so they\u2019re going to stay around the person that\u2019s sick,\u201d Sinnott said. \u201cThese mosquitoes don\u2019t go flying off for 2 or 3 miles or localized within a couple of football fields. RODRIGUEZ CARRILLO\/AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>More than 50 cases of Dengue Fever have been confirmed in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Health\u00a0officials are also encouraging residents to drain or cover standing water. According to the Department of Health, just a tablespoon of water left out for a week is enough for mosquitoes to multiply.<\/p>\n<p>Sinnott said <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/25\/dengue-fever-cases-could-reach-near-record-highs-this-year-what-to-know-about-the-tropical-infectious-disease\/\">Dengue symptoms<\/a> usually start with a headache.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Cases of the mosquito-borne illness Dengue Fever have been reported in Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. <span class=\"credit\">Photo by GIORGIO VIERA\/AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Mosquitoes have been laying eggs in the standing water left by Milton. <span class=\"credit\">REUTERS\/Ricardo Arduengo\/File Photo<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThen your joints start hurting, starting with the weight-bearing joints, the knees,\u201d Synnott said. \u201cI\u2019ve seen patients with this, and their pain is remarkable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neighboring Polk County has issued a health advisory about an increase in mosquito-borne disease after several chickens tested positive for West Nile virus.
