{"id":120326,"date":"2024-10-31T05:36:49","date_gmt":"2024-10-30T22:36:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=120326"},"modified":"2024-10-31T05:36:49","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T22:36:49","slug":"cdc-says-slivered-onions-are-likely-cause-of-mcdonalds-e-coli-infections-as-cases-rise-to-90","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotvideos24.online\/?p=120326","title":{"rendered":"CDC says slivered onions are likely cause of McDonald&#8217;s E. coli infections as cases rise to 90"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n     data-ad-layout-key=\"-fb+5w+4e-db+86\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"7910942971\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"\">The number of E. coli cases linked to McDonald\u2019s Quarter Pounders has risen to 90, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/ecoli\/outbreaks\/e-coli-O157.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> said Wednesday, up from 75 reported cases last Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The slivered onions used on the burgers are the \u201clikely source\u201d of the outbreak, the CDC said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A spokesperson for McDonald\u2019s said<strong> <\/strong>that all Quarter Pounders in affected states had been pulled from the restaurants by Oct. 22, when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/e-coli-mcdonalds-quarter-pounder-outbreak-cdc-rcna176665\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">outbreak was first announced<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The CDC said that any further risk to the public is \u201cvery low.\u201d The most recent case was on Oct. 16. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">On Sunday, Colorado Agriculture Department officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/mcdonalds-quarter-pounder-beef-patties-not-source-e-coli-outbreak-comp-rcna177516\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ruled out the beef patties used in the Quarter Pounders <\/a>as the outbreak\u2019s source after testing found no traces of E. coli. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">One person has died in the outbreak, and 27 have been hospitalized so far, the CDC said. At least two people developed a rare kidney illness called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/ecoli\/signs-symptoms\/hus.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hemolytic uremic syndrome<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A family in Grand Junction, Colorado, told NBC News that their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/mcdonalds-e-coli-teen-battles-kidney-failure-rcna177676\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">15-year-old daughter <\/a>is one of those who developed the kidney condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The high school freshman&#8217;s initial symptoms \u2014 fever and stomach pain \u2014 began just days after she went to her local McDonald&#8217;s several times for a Quarter Pounder. She experienced vomiting and diarrhea with blood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">She&#8217;s since been hospitalized with kidney damage, the family said, and has had to undergo multiple rounds of dialysis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The true number of cases linked to the Quarter Pounders is likely much higher than the 90 reported so far. Most people with E. coli infections are never tested for the bacteria and recover on their own. <\/p>\n<section class=\"embed-widget embedWidget embed-widget--medium\" data-testid=\"embed-widget\"\/>\n<p class=\"\">Thirteen states have reported cases: Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Food and Drug Administration has also said that the slivered onions, supplied by food producer Taylor Farms Colorado Springs, are the most likely source of contamination. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The FDA said Wednesday that in addition to inspecting a Taylor Farms processing center in Colorado, it&#8217;s also looking into an &#8220;onion grower of interest&#8221; based in Washington state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">According to McDonald\u2019s, <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.mcdonalds.com\/corpmcd\/our-stories\/article\/always-putting-food-safety-first.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">900 restaurants across 12 states<\/a> received the onions from Taylor Farms. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The restaurant chain said it stopped sourcing onions from the company indefinitely on Friday. It\u2019ll start selling the Quarter Pounder without onions in affected stores this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"endmark\">Other restaurant chains in Colorado, including Taco Bell, Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut and Illegal Pete\u2019s, removed onions from their menus out of an abundance of caution.
