The bank released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boj.or.jp\/en\/mopo\/mpmdeci\/mpr_2024\/k241031a.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two-line statement<\/a> simply stating the decision, with no clues on the timing of its next rate hike.<\/p>\n<p>In China, the country&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/31\/pmi-chinas-factory-activity-expands-for-the-first-time-since-april.html\">manufacturing purchasing managers index<\/a> flipped into expansion territory for the first time since April, with the National Bureau of Statistics revealing the manufacturing PMI came in at 50.1.<\/p>\n<p>This beat forecasts from a Reuters poll of economists, who expected the manufacturing PMI to come in at 49.9, a softer contraction than the 49.8 the month before.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Japan&#8217;s benchmark <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\">Nikkei 225<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> was 0.41% lower after the BOJ decision, while the broad based Topix slipped 0.47%.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s <span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\">Kospi<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> was 0.71% lower, leading losses in Asia, but the small cap Kosdaq was up 0.39%.<\/p>\n<p>Investors are assessing heavyweight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/31\/samsung-electronics-q3-2024-earnings.html\">Samsung Electronics&#8217; third-quarter earnings<\/a>, which revealed a lower profit than the previous quarter. Most notably, Samsung&#8217;s semiconductor unit reported third-quarter operating profit of 3.86 trillion won (about $2.8 billion), down 40% from the previous quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<span class=\"QuoteInBody-quoteNameContainer\" data-test=\"QuoteInBody\" id=\"LiveBlogArticle-QuoteInBody-6\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a><span class=\"QuoteInBody-inlineButton\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistContainer\" id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\" data-analytics-id=\"-WatchlistDropdown\"><button class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-watchlistButton\" aria-label=\"Add To Watchlist\" data-testid=\"dropdown-btn\"><span class=\"AddToWatchlistButton-addWatchListFromTag\"\/><\/button><\/span><\/span><\/span> shed 0.3%.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Hong Kong&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\">Hang Seng index<\/a> climbed 0.66%, while mainland China&#8217;s CSI 300 was also 0.54% higher.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Overnight in the U.S., stocks slipped as investors digested a deluge of earnings reports and looked toward more results from megacap technology companies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/GOOG\/\">Alphabet<\/a>\u00a0exceeded analysts&#8217; expectations as the company saw\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/29\/alphabet-to-report-q3-earnings-after-the-bell.html\">strong quarterly revenue growth<\/a>\u00a0from its cloud business. Shares jumped almost 3%. However, Shares of chipmaker\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AMD\/\">AMD<\/a>\u00a0slid more than 10% as its fourth-quarter\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/29\/amd-earnings-report-q3-2024.html\">revenue guidance<\/a>\u00a0failed to impress investors.<\/p>\n<p>Tech titans<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/META\/\">\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AAPL\/\">Apple<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/AMZN\/\">Amazon<\/a>\u00a0are due Thursday, following results from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/META\/\">Meta Platforms<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/MSFT\/\">Microsoft<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The tech-heavy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0declined 0.56% after earlier rising to a fresh record high.
