The coven two, though, is a lot more complicated. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe <a data-id=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/10\/agatha-all-along-episode-8-recap-1236163000\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/10\/agatha-all-along-episode-8-recap-1236163000\/\">penultimate episode <\/a>of <em>Agatha All Along<\/em> brought the many miles of tricks and trials of the Witches\u2019 Road to a close, but it left viewers with many questions about the reality of what happened and who ended up where. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tEpisode 8, titled \u201cFollow Me My Friend \/ To Glory At the End,\u201d suggested that the road itself was all in Billy\u2019s mind. Episode 9, the show\u2019s finale, titled \u201cMaiden Mother Crone,\u201d expands on this notion while also filling in the history of Agatha, her son Nicholas Scratch and what Rio did to make Agatha hate her. Deadline\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/10\/agatha-all-along-episode-8-recap-1236163000\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/10\/agatha-all-along-episode-8-recap-1236163000\/\">recap of Episode 8<\/a> will refresh viewers\u2019 memories before they head into the finale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe finale opens on a lush green expanse of forest as women vocalize in the background. A hooded woman scurries through the woods in a purple robe. It\u2019s 1750, and the woman is Agatha.<br \/>She is pregnant and, from the looks of it, in labor. She cuts up a lemon against a tree and bites down on it to start the process. She looks up, and Rio, cloaked in green, waits for her at the edge of a lake holding a flower.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cIt cannot be,\u201d Agatha says to her. \u201cIt must be,\u201d Rio responds. \u201cYou do this and I\u2019ll hate you forever,\u201d Agatha says, begging Rio to let him live. This harkens back to when Death mentioned that she betrayed a woman she loved, making her her scar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tI can offer only time, Rio says. Agatha asks how much time. She is walking him through the woods as he cries when she stumbles upon a group of women singing around a cauldron.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cSister come forth,\u201d an older woman asks. \u201cIs the little one well?\u201d The woman lets Agatha into a circle of stones as the blue veins in them glow yellow, but she gives a look of suspicion to Agatha beforehand. \u201cWe haven\u2019t eaten in days,\u201d was Agatha\u2019s excuse. Agatha sucked all their power away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSix years later, an older Nicholas sits at the foot of a well. He steals a bell \u2014 that looks suspiciously like the one Agatha chimes before she and her makeshift coven start to sing \u2014 from a witch\u2019s stand, luring them to Agatha\u2019s cabin while she siphons off their power.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cMama why do you kill witches?\u201d he asks. \u201cTo survive,\u201d she tells him, and he asks \u201cCould we not stay with the witches and survive with them?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAgatha says no, saying he should get used to the feeling of being solo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cWalk, walk, walk the road \/ I walked the windy road,\u201d he sings in an early version of the Ballad of the Witches\u2019 Road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI cannot heal you, I cannot protect you from what\u2019s coming,\u201d she tells Nicholas when he asks her to make him food one day, knowing that Death will return for her boy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAgatha and her son slowly put together the lyrics to the Ballad of the Witches\u2019 Road, calling it the Windy Road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/feature\/agatha-all-along-release-schedule-1236090616\/\">\u2018Agatha All Along\u2019 Release Schedule: When Do New Episodes Arrive?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tNicholas then performs the song as Agatha skulks through the distracted audience. She pays him and encourages others to reward him too. One redheaded witch asks where he came upon the curious song. Nicholas looks ill and as he is offered a warm meal, he says \u201cThank you, but no. My mother needs me home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cWe can kill more witches tomorrow,\u201d he says, coughing, as dark hits the woods. As they fall asleep singing the song, Nicholas wakes up to Rio with a green flame, Rio holding the torch waiting for them in the dark. She beckons Nicholas, who picks something up off the blanket as he leaves with her. Agatha wakes up to find him dead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI want more time,\u201d she sobs. She buried her boy beneath stones with a bushel of lavender, singing the song with new lyrics. \u201cI buried my own heart, here with you my child,\u201d she sings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cYou must know the way then,\u201d a blonde woman tells Agatha, guessing she knows the way to the Witches\u2019 Road according to the ballad. \u201cI am in great need,\u201d the young woman says after she tells Agatha of the road offering a prize worth the peril to witches who are brave and true. \u201cMight you show me the way?\u201d the young woman asks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cYou inquire in good faith, so I shall respond in kind,\u201d Agatha says. \u201cI know it by heart. First, we must gather a coven.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cWhere\u2019s the door? Pathetic, embarrassing,\u201d Agatha yells at a group of women she assembles to conjure the rumored road. She is completely shocked when a door appears, but she knows it\u2019s Billy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFlash forward to Billy from Episode 8 saying \u201cIt was me.\u201d The evil laughter was, indeed Agatha, but she appears as a GHOST with gray hair in an outfit like she appears in the comics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cBy the way, I did not sacrifice myself for you. I took a calculated risk,\u201d She tells him. \u201cI\u2019m still figuring out the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cDid I make the road?\u201d Billy asks her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cUnlike your mother, sorry, Wanda, you did something interesting with your power. It was just a con. The song doesn\u2019t mean anything. It never did,\u201d she tells him. \u201cThe road wasn\u2019t real until you made it real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cIf I made the road then that means that I,\u201d Billy concludes. \u201cI killed them. Are they ghosts too? I\u2019m a murderer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAgatha says she killed Alice and Lilia chose to die.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cMy mind killed them,\u201d he tells Agatha, who says \u201cDon\u2019t give yourself too much credit. If you actually do the math on it, you saved a life.\u201d Cut to Jenn crawling up through the dirt back onto the border of Westview near the sign. He goes into the basement, where the pentagonal door with a blue glow behind it awaits him, as does Agatha\u2019s ghost, who says he took something from her and wants it back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cGive me what I want and I\u2019ll be on my way,\u201d she tells Billy, who draws a petagram of chalk and places some candles around the border, performing analog magic in Agatha\u2019s eyes, or not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHe looks eerily similar to Wanda as she dreamwalks using similar materials. Suddenly, his black notebook pops out from behind Agatha into his hands. Why don\u2019t you just die?\u201d Billy asks Agatha, who shouts \u201cBecause I can\u2019t face him!\u201d meaning Nicholas, as Billy deciphers.
