Gavin Newsom, he announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/CALACOUNTY\/2024\/10\/30\/file_attachments\/3052324\/10.30.24%20Request%20to%20Grant%20Clemency%20for%20Lyle%20Menendez%20CDCR%20%23%20K13758.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:letters;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">letters<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/CALACOUNTY\/2024\/10\/30\/file_attachments\/3052307\/10.30.24%20Request%20to%20Grant%20Clemency%20for%20Erik%20Galen%20Menendez%20CDCR%20No.%20K14101.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:published;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">published<\/a> by Gasc\u00f3n\u2019s office, describe the 1989 murders by the Menendez brothers of their parents, Kitty and Jose Menendez, as well as \u201ccredible allegations\u201d that Erik and Lyle were each \u201cthe victim of sexual and physical abuse at the hands of (their) father.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The brothers\u2019 34 years spent in custody and \u201cdedication to rehabilitation\u201d make them \u201cexemplary\u201d candidates for clemency, Gasc\u00f3n wrote. The district attorney adds that his office has communicated with several family members of Kitty and Jose Menendez and all family members except one, Kitty Menendez\u2019s brother, support commutation.<\/p>\n<p>CNN has reached out to the brothers\u2019 attorney, Mark Geragos, to confirm a formal clemency request has been sent to the governor\u2019s office.
