So successful, in fact, they decided to do it again this year.<\/p>\n<p>But with a twist.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, the big fall festival will not benefit Pforsich. It will benefit two North Bay residents, who, like Pforsich, have suffered spinal cord injuries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I first brought up the idea, he hesitated,\u201d D\u2019Ancona, 24, said. \u201cHe said, \u2018Well, I\u2019ll continue to do it but only to help other people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So the \u201cCarson &amp; Desi Presents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pforsichpfallpfundraising.org\/\" id=\"link-62bd0dbd051bf1d234b1d43ea4511bfd\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Pforsich Pfall Pfundraising Pfestivities<\/a>\u201d part two was launched.<\/p>\n<p>Pforsich and D\u2019Ancona solicited nominations for worthy beneficiaries of the community\u2019s largesse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people are not lucky enough to have communities that are as amazing as his and who show up like this,\u201d D\u2019Ancona said.<\/p>\n<p>Spread the wealth, they thought.<\/p>\n<p>Pforsich was a senior and multisport athlete at Analy High School in 2017 when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressdemocrat.com\/article\/news\/analy-student-athlete-injured-in-sonoma-coast-accident\/\" id=\"link-5ec262698829e68c87e62df0c5a8516f\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">broke his neck<\/a> diving into the water off Pinnacle Gulch in Bodega Bay.<\/p>\n<p>Today Pforsich, 24, uses a wheelchair to get around, and is studying for the first of four exams en route to becoming a certified public accountant.<\/p>\n<p>But he knows how devastating injuries like his can be. And how debilitating it can be financially.<\/p>\n<p>And he expresses freely how lucky he is to have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressdemocrat.com\/article\/news\/sebastopol-teen-optimistic-as-he-confronts-paralysis\/\" id=\"link-93c710eaa22a98396128c087322ef98d\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">love and support of his community<\/a>. So now he wants share those gifts.<\/p>\n<p>He and D\u2019Ancona, who have registered their operation as a nonprofit, are hosting what they are calling a fall festival fit for the whole family Sunday in Santa Rosa.<\/p>\n<p>Pforsich Pfall Pfundraising Pfestivities will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Backdrop in Santa Rosa. There will be a raffle and silent auction, games and food, as well as live music. All ages are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s family-friendly fun, have some good food and have some entertainment and get to know and meet the two recipients this year,\u201d Pforsich said. \u201cIt\u2019s to not only spread awareness of their stories but really spread awareness of what life is like with a spinal cord injury in general and how difficult it can be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made our mission statement to help people with spinal cord injuries and other neurological disorders with medical hardships,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>One of the two inaugural year recipients is Carson Dohemann, 32, of Novato.<\/p>\n<p>Dohemann, like Pforsich, suffered a spinal cord injury in a swimming accident.<\/p>\n<p>He is almost entirely paralyzed from his chest down.<\/p>\n<p>Pforsich and Dohemann both work out at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressdemocrat.com\/article\/business\/petalumas-sci-fit-brings-exercise-recovery-to-neurologically-injured-peopl\/\" id=\"link-d98950c8cd7f0166303dc186d5ca4725\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">SCI-FIT in Petaluma<\/a>. SCI-FIT targets clients dealing with spinal cord injury, strokes and neurological disorders.<\/p>\n<p>Dohemann\u2019s training and physical therapy work at<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sci-fit.org\/who-we-help\/\" id=\"link-6df0f6618e7cfc697a0ab7e2850634a5\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"> SCI-FIT<\/a> is paid for with grants. Any money raised through the Pforsich event will help him continue to get therapy sessions when those grants run their course, Dohemann said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis fundraiser is going to allow me to keep doing that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>And maintaining strength is crucial, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really important because without the trainers at SCI-FIT, I can\u2019t get out of the chair on my own,\u201d he said. \u201cMoving in general for my body, keeping my muscles strong. They atrophy fast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dohemann said beyond the fundraising, he\u2019s excited to see the event in its earliest stages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really their first step in a journey in this nonprofit world. They\u2019re raising money and helping people and I think it\u2019s really cool to see,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is the smallest of what it\u2019s going to be in my mind, so it\u2019s kind of cool to be at the forefront.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The other beneficiary of the Nov. 3 event is Andre Abarca, 29, of Novato.<\/p>\n<p>Abarca suffered a spinal cord injury in a 2023 motorcycle accident, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pforsichpfallpfundraising.org\/donate\" id=\"link-ecd65171c19e99fa47f4d1413118d46a\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">his profile<\/a> on Pforsich\u2019s site.<\/p>\n<p>Going forward, Pforsich and D\u2019Ancona envision an event that builds on momentum and pulls in multiple nominations from the community each year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want it to be where we are well known enough that family members or friends can nominate their loved ones to be a potential recipient in the future,\u201d Pforsich said.<\/p>\n<p>Pforsich knows something about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressdemocrat.com\/article\/news\/sebastopol-teenager-carson-pforsich-making-strides-in-recovery-from-life-ch\/\" id=\"link-0b409140a6d14fc6cbc02c9bbbc7d2a8\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">momentum and moving forward<\/a>.
