The suit was immediately condemned by First Amendment attorneys, who called it \u201cfrivolous and dangerous.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp00093b5v77cngois@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In the complaint filed in US District Court in the Northern District of Texas, Trump\u2019s legal counsel claimed CBS\u2019 \u201c60 Minutes\u201d interview with Harris and the associated programming were \u201cpartisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference\u201d intended to \u201cmislead the public and attempt to tip the scales\u201d of the presidential election in her favor.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp000a3b5v3ms7smh2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The lawsuit also says Trump is seeking for the network to \u201cpublicly release the full, unedited transcript of the [interview].\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp000b3b5vhe300mbc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The US District Court in Northern Texas currently assigns cases in a way that any case filed in its Amarillo Division is automatically assigned to Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, a Trump appointee.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp000c3b5vvx4m7mp6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            It was unclear why the suit was filed in the Texas court but could be a case of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/04\/01\/politics\/judge-shopping-northern-district-texas\/index.html\">\u201cjudge shopping,\u201d<\/a> the practice of strategically filing cases in courthouses where the lawsuits are almost guaranteed to be heard by judges perceived to be sympathetic to the litigants.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp000d3b5vvsiimq42@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Trump has repeatedly claimed that the show\u2019s interview with Harris was grossly mis-edited by CBS at the direction of the campaign, and he has called for the network to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/10\/media\/fcc-rosenworcel-trump-cbs-license-60-minutes\/index.html\"> \u201close its license.\u201d<\/a>\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp000e3b5vno5n8yxg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cTo paper over Kamala\u2019s \u2018word salad\u2019 weakness, CBS used its national platform on 60 Minutes to cross the line from the exercise of judgment in reporting to deceitful, deceptive manipulation of news,\u201d the filing stated.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp000f3b5vo9w0pwvs@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Trump\u2019s legal counsel argued that \u201cCBS\u2019s misconduct was unconscionable because it amounts to a brazen attempt to interfere in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp000g3b5v6rztheff@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            A spokesperson for CBS said that Trump\u2019s claims against \u201c60 Minutes\u201d are false.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp000h3b5vj4s9qaaa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThe Interview was not doctored; and 60 MINUTES did not hide any part of the Vice President\u2019s answer to the question at issue. 60 MINUTES fairly presented the Interview to inform the viewing audience, and not to mislead it.  The lawsuit Trump has brought today against CBS is completely without merit and we will vigorously defend against it,\u201d the spokesperson continued.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp000i3b5v66h67ozm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The lawsuit was immediately slammed by prominent First Amendment attorneys, who called it meritless and absurd.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp000j3b5v04wtzvb0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThis is a frivolous and dangerous attempt by a politician to control the news media. The Supreme Court has made it crystal clear: the First Amendment leaves it to journalists \u2013 and not the courts, the government or candidates for office \u2013 to decide how to report the news,\u201d said First Amendment attorney Charles Tobin of the law firm Ballard Spahr.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm2y7rrvp000k3b5vnl57i9cs@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Floyd Abrams, the First Amendment lawyer of Pentagon Papers fame, agreed, telling CNN: \u201cThe First Amendment was drafted to protect the press from just such litigation.
