with a\u00a026% reduced chance of advancing from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/08\/21\/lifestyle\/where-you-live-can-affect-chances-of-a-dementia-diagnosis-study\/\">mild cognitive impairment to dementia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is possible that education and intellectually demanding jobs provide more mental stimulation and help to build a stronger brain reserve to help protect individuals against cognitive impairment and dementia,\u201d explained lead study author Aswathikutty Gireesh of University College London (UCL).<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>UCL researchers followed 8,442 UK middle-aged adults over a decade to see how socioeconomic factors influenced changes in cognitive status.<\/p>\n<p>Participants completed a questionnaire about their education, occupation and wealth, and researchers ascertained their mental status via medical diagnoses, cognitive test results and self-reported symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>They tracked how participants moved between various cognitive states \u2014 healthy, mild impairment and dementia \u2014 while also considering that brain function brain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis potential recovery is critical for enhancing the quality of life in later years and reducing the long-term burden of cognitive impairment on healthcare systems, families, and society as a whole,\u201d senior study author Dorina Cadar said.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers are calling for policies that support mental and cognitive well-being across all income levels.
