Eastwood fans in the UK will have no problem seeing Juror#2, where it\u2019s enjoying a wide release in more than 300 cinemas nationwide. Across the whole of the US, however, it\u2019s screening in fewer than 50 cinemas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">Starting small then rolling out nationwide is a common strategy for movies being positioned as awards contenders. Yet this is not the case for Juror#2, which will not expand its screen number \u2013 and does not even feature on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbawards.com\/screenings\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Warner Bros\u2019s For Your Consideration<\/a> website, its portal for Oscar hopefuls.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"1bad98be-c03f-4cbe-aca3-7d9f10290bce\" data-spacefinder-role=\"richLink\" data-spacefinder-type=\"model.dotcomrendering.pageElements.RichLinkBlockElement\" class=\" dcr-1your1i\"><gu-island name=\"RichLinkComponent\" priority=\"feature\" deferuntil=\"idle\" props=\"{&quot;richLinkIndex&quot;:4,&quot;element&quot;:{&quot;_type&quot;:&quot;model.dotcomrendering.pageElements.RichLinkBlockElement&quot;,&quot;prefix&quot;:&quot;Related: &quot;,&quot;text&quot;:&quot;Juror #2 review \u2013 Clint Eastwood puts Nicholas Hoult in court \u2026 and an unusual pickle&quot;,&quot;elementId&quot;:&quot;1bad98be-c03f-4cbe-aca3-7d9f10290bce&quot;,&quot;role&quot;:&quot;richLink&quot;,&quot;url&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2024\/oct\/30\/juror-2-review-clint-eastwood-nicholas-hoult-court-dilemma&quot;},&quot;ajaxUrl&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/api.nextgen.guardianapps.co.uk&quot;,&quot;format&quot;:{&quot;design&quot;:10,&quot;display&quot;:0,&quot;theme&quot;:3}}\"\/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">Stranger still, Warners has said it will not report box office takings for the film \u2013 an almost unprecedented move for a theatrical release \u2013 and that the film is likely to move to streaming before the month is out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">At the film\u2019s premiere at the AFI festival last week, Eastwood was nowhere to be seen, leaving it to Hoult and co-star Toni Collette to trot up the red carpet and spearhead an audience shout-out to the director: \u201cWe love you, Clint!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">His absence led many to the conclusion the nonagenarian was ailing, his health worsened by the sudden death in July of his partner, 61-year-old Christina Sandera, and the arrest in October of his daughter, Francesca, on a domestic assault charge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">Yet Eastwood is in fact <a href=\"https:\/\/radaronline.com\/p\/clint-eastwood-94-new-girlfriend-christina-sandera-heart-attack\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">reported<\/a> to be dating again, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EastwoodMalpaso\/status\/1846290786108731803\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">post<\/a> on his official X account from 15 October shows the film-maker grinning in a leather jacket and, according to the caption, \u201creturning to work, reviewing scripts in his Malpaso [o]ffices\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">The Guardian has contacted Warners and representatives of Eastwood for comment.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"87c018db-0574-42b6-a924-c2e8527a6623\" data-spacefinder-role=\"inline\" data-spacefinder-type=\"model.dotcomrendering.pageElements.VideoYoutubeBlockElement\" class=\" dcr-173mewl\">\n<div data-component=\"youtube-embed\" class=\"dcr-13aa88h\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/viA35xH5KO8?wmode=opaque&amp;feature=oembed\" title=\"Juror #2 - Official Trailer - Warner Bros. UK &amp; Ireland\" height=\"480\" width=\"854\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">As well as being consistently prolific, Eastwood\u2019s career has, by-and-large, been profitable both commercially and critically for Warner Bros, with whom he\u2019s worked for six decades. Less than 20 years ago, Million Dollar Baby won best picture, director, actress and supporting actor at the Oscars, as well as taking $216m worldwide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">In 2014, Warners released Eastwood\u2019s highest-grossing film to date: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2015\/jan\/18\/american-sniper-review-bradley-cooper-real-life-tale-legendary-marksman\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">American Sniper<\/a>, starring Bradley Cooper, which made $547m from its $59m budget, and scored six Oscar nominations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">His films since have performed more modestly, but some have been genuine hits \u2013 air crash drama Sully made $240m \u2013 and none were catastrophic flops. Insiders suggest that incoming Warners CEO David Zaslav was dismayed by tepid numbers of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2021\/nov\/10\/cry-macho-review-even-clint-eastwood-cant-rescue-ropey-western\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Cry Macho<\/a>, Eastwood\u2019s 2021 neo-western, which made back just half of its $33m budget.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-106f06m\">Yet the film was released at a time when many cinemas in the US remained closed and audiences \u2013 especially among an older demographic \u2013 were hesitant about venturing out to them.
