focusing calorie intake earlier in the day for at least 12 weeks can help you lose more weight than following standard care and receiving nutritional advice.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers from Bond University in Australia analyzed 29 clinical trials with a total of 2,485 participants to see if it\u2019s better to change when you eat instead of what you eat.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image studies.<\/p>\n<p>Some research has linked this method to weight loss,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/01\/28\/this-diet-can-help-stop-type-2-diabetes\/\">a lower risk of Type 2 diabetes<\/a>\u00a0and heart disease,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/12\/26\/people-on-the-intermittent-fasting-diet-live-longer-study\/\">reduced inflammation<\/a> and improved immune eating<\/a> to less than eight hours a day are more likely to die from cardiovascular disease than people who eat in a 12- to 16-hour window.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>The new review, published Friday in the journal JAMA Network Open, reported that sticking to an eating window of eight hours a day or less yielded the greatest weight loss.<\/p>\n<p>Bond researchers also determined that intermittent fasting participants with a higher body mass index (BMI) lost more weight than those with a lower BMI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor years, I dragged my feet against time-restricted eating because I thought it sounded a little bit trendy and I didn\u2019t quite trust it,\u201d Stephanie Schiff, a registered dietitian nutritionist at <a href=\"https:\/\/huntington.northwell.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Northwell Huntington Hospital<\/a>, told The Post. \u201cBut as the years have gone by and I\u2019ve read more and more studies, I recommend it on a fairly regular basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schiff, who was not involved with the new research, said she sticks to a 12-hour window, but you should tailor your plan to your lifestyle and nutrition needs.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>You may sleep better if you don\u2019t eat past 7 p.m. <span Schiff recommends <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/09\/30\/lifestyle\/eat-dinner-at-5-p-m-for-better-health-digestion-sleep-experts\/\">not eating past 6 or 7 p.m.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happens is your cortisol levels are going up as you\u2019re eating,\u201d Schiff explained. \u201cIf you stop eating at 7, you get time to digest your food, your metabolism starts to slow down and a couple of hours later, when you\u2019re ready to go to sleep, your melatonin has time to rise and help you fall asleep.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schiff said if an earlier dinner time is not possible, you should try to consume a heavier meal in the middle of the day and taper off eating by day\u2019s end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can still have that small, healthy snack a few hours after you\u2019ve eaten your loss.<\/p>\n<p>Eating fewer meals throughout the day, meanwhile, was tied to \u201csmall reductions in weight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The study authors acknowledged \u201chigh concerns\u201d about the quality of 22 of the 29 studies and said trials with more participants who are followed for longer periods should be conducted.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async
