data-v-438398f6=\"\">Outside of the impact zone, the state of the responses has served as a galvanizing force among likely voters.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">For instance, in 1992, the FEMA response to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/hurricane-andrew-timeline-on-this-day-august-24-1992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hurricane Andrew<\/a> in South Florida was largely viewed as inadequate by the public, putting the state\u2019s 25 electoral votes up for grabs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Similarly, in 2012, Superstorm Sandy swept through the eastern U.S., impacting the reelection of President Barack Obama.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">At that time, national exit polling indicated that the hurricane response was an important factor for 15% of voters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">In 2024, Hurricane Helene affected voters in several southern swing states, but the impacts on the electorate will likely take months, if not longer, to accurately determine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/weather-news\/election-november-forecast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to political experts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Here\u2019s a look at some of the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/hurricanes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hurricanes<\/a> that have impacted U.S. elections.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/lifestyle\/weather-can-affect-election-turnout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WEATHER CAN IMPACT VOTER TURNOUT<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\">Hurricane Nicole \u2013 November 2022<\/h2>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Nicole is known for being only the third hurricane in November to make landfall in the Sunshine State.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The cyclone developed on Nov. 7 and made landfall only three days later on Nov. 10.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The National Hurricane Center issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/extreme-weather\/nicole-damage-daytona-beach-shores-florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hurricane Warning for much of Florida\u2019s east coast<\/a> on election day ahead of the cyclone\u2019s impacts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Despite alerts and evacuation notices, most of the effects occurred after voting, limiting impacts on the electoral process.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">At least 11 deaths were attributed to the hurricane in the Caribbean and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florida<\/a>, and damage was estimated to be around $1 billion.<\/p>\n<div class=\"featured featured-image WATCH FOX WEATHER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 data-v-4e81e892=\"\">Hurricane Dorian \u2013 September 2019<\/h2>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">A special election to fill the vacancy in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/north-carolina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Carolina<\/a>&#8216;s 9th congressional district was held just days after Hurricane Dorian made landfall near Cape Hatteras as a Category 2 cyclone.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The district covers a region south of Raleigh and east of Charlotte and was impacted by the outer fringes of the hurricane.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">After devastating the Bahamas, the hurricane made landfall during the morning of Friday, Sept. 6.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Due to the impacts, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsbe.gov\/news\/press-releases\/2019\/09\/06\/order-extends-early-voting-counties-affected-hurricane-dorian\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state mandated additional early voting hours<\/a> to allow the opportunity for affected voters to cast their ballots ahead of the Sept. 10 election day.<\/p>\n<div class=\"featured featured-image component-center\">\n<div hurricane impacted North Carolina and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/south-carolina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Carolina<\/a> in mid-September, leading to concerns about early voting during the midterm elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsbe.gov\/news\/press-releases\/2018\/09\/17\/state-board-assessing-florences-effects-elections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">N.C.
