It soared as polls began tilting his way through most of October.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, shares were so high that <a href=\"https:\/\/content.fortune.com\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=4060366&amp;action=edit\" target=\"_self\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/content.fortune.com\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=4060366&amp;action=edit\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/content.fortune.com\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=4060366&amp;action=edit\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump Media\u2019s market cap hit $10.8 billion<\/a>, exceeding Elon Musk\u2019s social media platform <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/company\/twitter\/\" rel=\"noopener\">X<\/a>, which has an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/10\/28\/donald-trump-election-harris-tmtg-shares-truth-social-media-elon-musk\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/10\/28\/donald-trump-election-harris-tmtg-shares-truth-social-media-elon-musk\/\" rel=\"noopener\">estimated value of $9.4 billion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But the next day, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/10\/30\/trump-media-stock-price-falls-tmtg-djt-kamala-harris-election\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/10\/30\/trump-media-stock-price-falls-tmtg-djt-kamala-harris-election\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/10\/30\/trump-media-stock-price-falls-tmtg-djt-kamala-harris-election\/\" rel=\"noopener\">DJT shares began selling off<\/a>, with volatility so extreme that trading was halted several times. By the end of the session, the stock had tumbled 22%, marking the biggest single-day plunge since Trump Media went public in March.<\/p>\n<p>Shares fell 12% on Thursday and 14% on Friday, capping off a 41% dive over just three days. That means the value of Trump\u2019s stake went from $5.9 billion to $3.5 billion during that span, resulting in a $2.4 billion net worth decline, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/11\/01\/investing\/trump-stock-net-worth\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/11\/01\/investing\/trump-stock-net-worth\/index.html\" rel=\"noopener\">according to CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/11\/02\/election-odds-donald-trump-lead-kamala-harris-madison-square-garden-rally-electoral-votes\/?abc123\" target=\"_self\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/11\/02\/election-odds-donald-trump-lead-kamala-harris-madison-square-garden-rally-electoral-votes\/?abc123\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/11\/02\/election-odds-donald-trump-lead-kamala-harris-madison-square-garden-rally-electoral-votes\/?abc123\" rel=\"noopener\">turning point may have been Trump\u2019s rally in Madison Square Garden<\/a> on Oct. 27, when comedian Tony Hinchcliffe called Puerto Rico \u201ca floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean,\u201d sparking a huge backlash.<\/p>\n<p>The rally, which featured other divisive speakers and remarks, was such a debacle that it may have reversed Kamala Harris\u2019s political fortunes and handed her the White House, according to Thomas Miller, a data scientist at Northwestern University who has built an election model.<\/p>\n<p>Failing to return to the presidency could prove especially costly for Trump and the value of his social media company. If \u201cTrump loses I think it eventually goes to zero,\u201d Mattew Tuttle, CEO of Tuttle Capital Management, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/10\/25\/trump-election-stock-worthless\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"sc-93594058-0 fowfrQ  \" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/fortune.com\/2024\/10\/25\/trump-election-stock-worthless\/\" rel=\"noopener\">told <em>Fortune<\/em> last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But even in that worst-case scenario, Trump will still be a billionaire, albeit a diminished one.
