Nothing that we are going to call gpt-5, though,&#8221; he said during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ChatGPT\/comments\/1ggixzy\/ama_with_openais_sam_altman_kevin_weil_srinivas\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"(Opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noopener\">Reddit AMA<\/a> this week.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI will instead focus on shipping GPT-o1, previously codenamed &#8220;Project Strawberry,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/news\/with-strawberry-ai-model-openai-argues-slower-responses-are-better\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">a new AI model from OpenAI<\/a> that, while slower, is geared toward <a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/introducing-openai-o1-preview\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"(Opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;thinking through&#8221;<\/a> problems before answering. The idea is to make something that&#8217;s useful for specialized use cases such as science, mathematics, and academic research. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All of these models have gotten quite complex and we can&#8217;t ship as many things in parallel as we&#8217;d like to,&#8221; Altman said on Reddit, adding that &#8220;we also face a lot of limitations and hard decisions about [where] we allocate&#8230;our compute towards.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Though concrete details about the future of ChatGPT were sparse, Altman predicted that ChatGPT\u2019s \u201cnext giant breakthrough\u201d will be \u201cagents,&#8221; or tools that can perform tasks independently, interacting with the world without human intervention. For example, booking you a flight or a concert ticket or answering an IT desk service query.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI VP of Engineering Srinivas Narayanan also said that in the future he would love ChatGPT to \u201cunderstand my personal information better and take actions on my behalf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Altman also hinted that he may one day open the door to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/news\/openai-exploring-how-chatgpt-can-responsibly-generate-porn\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cNot Safe For Work\u201d adult content<\/a>, which is currently blocked by the tool.\u00a0\u201cWe totally believe in treating adult users like adults,\u201d he told one Reddit user. \u201cBut it takes a lot of work to get this right, and right now we have more urgent priorities, adding \u201cWe would like to get this right some day!\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"py-4\" data-parent-group=\"related-stories\">\n<div class=\"mx-0 border border-b border-l-0 border-r-0 border-t border-gray-300 py-4 md:ml-8 md:mr-24\">\n<h3 class=\"font-stretch-ultra-condensed mb-2 text-lg font-semibold uppercase\">Recommended by Our Editors<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>OpenAI\u2019s leadership has ambitious goals for its models. In May, OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap predicted that \u201cwe will look back in a year and realize <a href=\"https:\/\/all%20of%20these%20models%20have%20gotten%20quite%20complex%20and%20we%20can't%20ship%20as%20many%20things%20in%20parallel%20as%20we'd%20like%20to.%20(we%20also%20face%20a%20lot%20of%20limitations%20and%20hard%20decisions%20about%20we%20allocated%20our%20compute%20towards%20many%20great%20ideas.)\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"(Opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noopener\">how laughably bad<\/a>\u201d previous versions of ChatGPT were.
