Catherine Herridge\u2019s reporting about the Hunter Biden laptop just weeks before the 2020 election, the award-winning investigative journalist claimed.  <\/p>\n<p>In her bombshell allegation, Herridge revealed she brought evidence to CBS News executive Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews and \u201cCBS Evening News\u201d anchor Norah O\u2019Donnell in early October 2020 that the laptop contained material about \u201ca million dollar retainer from a Chinese energy firm,\u201d along with business texts and emails from the son of Democratic challenger Joe Biden. <\/p>\n<p>But later that month, Herridge wrote that she was shocked to see \u201c60 Minutes\u201d correspondent\u00a0Lesley Stahl say the laptop \u201ccouldn\u2019t be verified\u201d during a tense interview with then-President Donald Trump. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Former CBS News journalist Catherine Herridge said she was able to verify the Hunter Biden laptop story but that execs at the network did not act on her reporting.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAs I watched the broadcast, I felt sick,\u201d Herridge, who was controversially fired by the Tiffany Network in February, wrote Sunday night in her recently launched <a href=\"https:\/\/catherineherridgereports.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">newsletter<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew the laptop records could be vetted and confirmed.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>She added that she was surprised that \u201c60 Minutes\u201d  \u2014 which came under fire last month <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/10\/31\/us-news\/trump-sues-cbs-news-for-10b-alleging-deceptive-doctoring-of-harris-60-minutes-interview\/\">for allegedly editing comments<\/a> made by Vice President Kamala Harris to avoid a \u201cword salad\u201d answer about the Middle East conflict \u2014 had not been working with the news division to confirm her reporting.<\/p>\n<p>There was such a \u201cdisconnect\u201d between the two entities, she said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Herridge claims that her former employer initially quashed her reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop story. <span class=\"credit\">X \/ @C__Herridge<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Before Stahl\u2019s segment aired, she was contacted by Ciprian-Matthews asking her if she had  \u201cconfirmed reporting\u201d on the Hunter Biden story for O\u2019Donnell\u2019s broadcast. <\/p>\n<p>Herridge assured the executive that her extensive reporting included \u201cworking the phones, reaching out to people on the Hunter Biden emails for corroboration and cross-referencing court records.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told Ciprian-Matthews the vetted materials included a million dollar retainer from a Chinese energy firm, emails with Hunter Biden\u2019s former business partner Tony Bobulinski as well as Hunter Biden text messages,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Leslie Stahl told then-President Trump in a 2020 interview that the Hunter Biden story couldn\u2019t be vetted\u2013 which shocked Herridge, who had already verified the laptop reporting to CBS brass. <span class=\"credit\">60 Minutes CBS News<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAsked by Ciprian-Matthews if there was a \u2018Hunter connection,\u2019 I responded, \u2018Yes, all of them,&#8217;\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Herridge said that she then provided some of the vetted records directly to Ciprian-Matthews. <\/p>\n<p>But her reporting was never aired.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know at this point what happened,\u201d Herridge said.<\/p>\n<p>The journalist noted that based on her experience at the network, she found it odd that CBS News did not task the investigative unit in October 2020 to develop more reporting on the laptop.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews asked Herridge to verify the laptop story. Herridge said she presented the evidence to the exec and never heard anything back. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for Operativo<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThat would have been standard practice,\u201d Herridge wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The Post was the only mainstream publication to report at the time that the laptop belonged to Hunter Biden \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/10\/15\/media\/npr-editor-slams-tech-firms-censoring-posts-hunter-biden-laptop\/\">leading to a ban of the story<\/a> by social media giants Facebook and Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>It took an additional two years for CBS to broadcast a forensic review of the Hunter Biden laptop data.\u00a0By that time, Ciprian-Matthews had been elevated to the role of CBS News president.<\/p>\n<p>Herridge said she continued to advocate for her report on the laptop, which \u201cdetermined that both the data belonged to Hunter Biden and it had not been tampered with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur report was broadcast in November 2022, after the midterm elections,\u201d Herridge said. <\/p>\n<p>The Post reached out to CBS News for comment.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Herridge brought her Hunter Biden reporting to Ciprian-Matthews and Norah O\u2019Donnell (pictured), but the journalist claims neither followed up with her on it. <span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Herridge was ousted earlier this year amid sweeping cuts at the network and parent company Paramount Global. <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/02\/28\/media\/cbs-insists-seizure-of-catherine-herridges-files-was-nothing-unusual\/\">CBS News seized Herridge\u2019s reporting materials<\/a> upon her termination.<\/p>\n<p>Sources close to the situation claimed that the decision to hold on to her files was made by Ciprian-Matthews. The files <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/02\/26\/business\/cbs-news-returns-confidential-files-of-reporter-covering-hunter-biden-laptop-scandal\/\">were returned<\/a> days later amid pressure from the union representing Herridge.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/07\/10\/media\/cbs-news-president-ingrid-ciprian-matthews-to-exit-after-controversies-at-helm-of-network\/\">The Post revealed <\/a>that Ciprian-Matthews was accused of sidelining white journalists and blocking <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/01\/09\/media\/new-woke-boss-at-cbs-news-got-top-job-despite-hr-probe-sources\/\">Herridge\u2019s  reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The exec <a href=\"http:\/\/07\/10\/media\/cbs-news-president-ingrid-ciprian-matthews-to-exit-after-controversies-at-helm-of-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abruptly stepped down<\/a> in August, and moved to the role of senior adviser for coverage of the 2024 presidential election before.
