The payment was one of several the man said he received from the propagandist- a registered Russian agent &#8211; to post on social media in the run-up to the election.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf00013b5vs4po2cvf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The pro-Trump influencer, who uses the @AlphaFox78 handle on X, is an American man living in Massachusetts, CNN has learned. He agreed to speak to CNN about the posts on condition of anonymity.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf00023b5vmsiruncb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The account, which has a history of posting right-wing memes in support of former President Donald Trump, was the first to post the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/31\/politics\/georgia-election-disinformation-foreign-meddling-raffensperger\/index.html\">now-debunked video<\/a> that purportedly showed a Haitian immigrant claiming he would vote at least twice in Georgia for Vice President Kamala Harris.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf00033b5vbbxbjcde@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Georgia Secretary of State said everything in that video was faked, from the actors to the ID cards, and was produced and disseminated by Russian influence actors.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf00043b5v36hrdckc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In phone and text interviews with CNN over multiple days, the person behind the account, which has amassed more than 650,000 followers on X, said he posted the video without fact-checking the claims made in it.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf00053b5vdavg3zfa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI don\u2019t have any idea where it came from or anything &#8211; I\u2019m just the guy who shared it,\u201d he said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf00063b5vues9ooba@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The man said Simeon Boikov, a Russian propagandist podcaster known online as \u201cAussieCossack,\u201d offered him $100 to post the video, which he agreed to.  A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to CNN that multiple payments were sent from Boikov to the Massachusetts man.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf00073b5v5yfc191w@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Documents reviewed by CNN show that Boikov is a registered foreign agent for Russia in Australia, where he works for Russian state media, writing and posting online in English and Russian.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf00083b5vh7bg24aa@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Boikov, who was recently given Russian citizenship and is seeking asylum in the Russian consulate in Sydney, has a history of posting pro-Kremlin disinformation. A previous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/30\/europe\/russian-disinformation-harris-walz-us-election-intl\/index.html\">CNN investigation found<\/a> that Boikov has played a role in Russia\u2019s disinformation campaigns, including ones targeting the 2024 US presidential election.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf00093b5va446bhls@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But his exact role and where he sits inside the disinformation network\u2019s hierarchy, remains elusive.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf000a3b5v26zwro1d@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The working relationship between AlphaFox and Boikov which has not been previously reported, reveals yet another means in which Russia has attempted to inject disinformation into the 2024 presidential election. AlphaFox said that Boikov explicitly told him not to speak to CNN and has since blocked him on the platform Telegram.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf000e3b5vwjihwt2o@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The FBI did not comment on the payments. The Russian and Australian Foreign Ministries did not respond to CNN requests for comment.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf000g3b5vckyy0uvt@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            On their social media accounts, both Boikov and AlphaFox have repeatedly shared narratives that the US intelligence community has determined originated with a Russian disinformation network dubbed \u201cStorm-1516.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf000h3b5vor13v3vc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            AlphaFox said the staged Georgia video wasn\u2019t the first time he was paid to post content on his X account. But Boikov purportedly responded that he had no reason to doubt the video\u2019s authenticity and that \u201csome big accounts have posted it.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf000m3b5vp6bw0cb3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cMy guard was down because it\u2019s just sharing memes,\u201d AlphaFox said, repeatedly justifying his posts to CNN by saying he didn\u2019t realize what he was getting himself into.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf000o3b5vpcz2qt26@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            After speaking with CNN, AlphaFox deleted the post, which at the time had generated more than 2.6 million views.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf000n3b5vsy0jxebx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            He also admitted he was paid to post content that targeted Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff, claiming that the couple had tipped off embattled musician Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs ahead of Homeland Security raids. The US intelligence community has since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cisa.gov\/news-events\/news\/joint-odni-fbi-and-cisa-statement-russian-election-influence-efforts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">determined that the claim<\/a> originated as a Russian influence operation.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf000q3b5vnx5p7xph@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            AlphaFox said he was remorseful for sharing Russian disinformation, and adamant that he was the one who was tricked.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf000r3b5vl2vp7f81@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cPeople need to be more vigilant when they share things,\u201d he told CNN. \u201cI never wanted to misinform anyone.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf000s3b5vgccgbt9p@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            AlphaFox believes himself to be just \u201cthe guy who shared\u201d a disinformation video. But that role is key to Russia\u2019s plan to disrupt the US election, according to Linvill, the disinformation expert.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm33olzwf000t3b5vd5y6371w@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cReal people have become important vehicles of Russian disinformation.
