In fact, there are four of them. But no need to send it back \u2014 I\u2019ve just devoured the whole thing, spirals and all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">My compliments to Evan Kalish, the puzzle\u2019s constructor, for serving up a grid that I only wish I could have savored for longer. I was left in quite a state, you might say, after solving it. And now that I\u2019ve nudge-nudged you ad nauseam, let\u2019s dig in, shall we?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-1\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<h2 class=\"css-1u37br4 eoo0vm40\" id=\"link-177cfbd\">Today\u2019s Theme<\/h2>\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">At first I thought that these spirals must be cinnamon buns, or some kind of funnel cake. Possibly a traditional spanakopita. But the revealer at 36-Across described these whorls as [Popular sushi options], which led me to CALIFORNIA ROLLS.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"\/><\/div>\n<div data-testid=\"companionColumn-2\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-at9mc1 evys1bk0\">In this puzzle, \u201cCalifornia\u201d takes on a more direct meaning: A closer look at each spiral reveals the name of a different Californian city.
